Smoke, Flames, and Courage 2010 This Weekend

On Saturday and Sunday, August 28th and 29th, Charlotte will host Smoke, Flames, and Courage 2010, an expo of firefighting past and present. Smoke, Flames, and Courage takes place each day from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Port of Rochester and Ontario Beach Park. Free events include: hall of firefighting history, displays of moden and antique fire apparatus, hand pumping, bucket brigades and steam fire engine with horses, rescue simulations, rescue boats, fire safety exhibits, fire memorabilia flea market, band concerts, children's activities, explorer efficiency competitions, and family safety awareness. Senator Robach Honors Veterans at Fleming Point

On Wednesday, August 25th, Senator Robach spoke at a ceremony to honor Veterans which was held at Fleming Point Gracious Retirement in Greece. Veterans in attendance also received a quilt from the Fleming Point quilting club.

Senator Robach Wraps Up 2010 Concerts by the Shore Series

On Wednesday, August 25th, Senator Robach introduced Ruby Shooz, who played at the final 2010 Concert by the Shore of the summer. Concerts by the Shore, which just wrapped up its 26th season provided free entertainment to families all summer long at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte.

RG&E Offering Reward in Connection with Incident at Russell Station Site

RG&E, in cooperation with the Town of Greece Police Department, is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for releasing oil and stealing copper from a spare transformer at RG&E’s Russell Station property. Information should be provided directly to the Greece police department tip line at 585.581.4016.

            In the meantime, RG&E and its contractor, KBH Environmental, are continuing to make good progress in cleaning up the mineral oil.

Town of Greece Police Department's 14th Annual Citizen's Police Academy Picnic

On Tuesday, August 24th, the Town of Greece Police Department honored residents who have gone through its Citizen’s Police Academy program with a picnic at Greece Town Hall. Members of the program were lauded for their commitment to help make Greece neighborhoods safe for families. Pictured (left to right) are Town of Greece Supervisor John Auberger, Town of Greece Police Officer Mary Beth Kowalski, Peter Landauer, Town of Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter, Senator Joe Robach, Town of Greece Deputy Supervisor Jeff McCann, Janet Selke, and Town Councilman Kirk Morris.

Business group assesses politicians' voting records

Stephen Hawley, William Reilich, Brian Kolb and Joseph Errigo voted pro-business most often among Rochester-area members of the state Assembly, and George Winner Jr., Joseph Robach and Catharine Young were the most pro-business in Senate, the New York chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business reported Tuesday.

 

Hawley, R-Batavia, voted pro-business 91 percent of the time over 12 months, the group’s data show. Reilich, R-Greece, Kolb, R-Canandaigua, and Errigo, R-Conesus, all voted pro-business on 82 percent of state legislation.

NYS Department of Labor Launches New Website for Job Seekers

To make it easier for job seekers to search for careers, the New York State Department of Labor has launched the New York State Job Bank web site: http://www.laborny.jobs/. There are 84,217 jobs posted on the new site and it continues to grow.

The site offers free services for both job seekers and businesses to speed hiring. Job seekers can post resumes and scan job openings, while businesses can post job openings and view resumes to find qualified candidates.

The new site offers these benefits for the job seeker:

* Helps them to search job listings by key word or location

* Alerts them to the latest job postings as often as they choose

* Allows them to post resumes

* Gives them the option to let employers view their resume

Rochester General Hospital Going More Energy-Efficient

On Thursday August 12th, Senator Robach made remarks during a press conference at Rochester General Hospital to announce an energy-efficient lighting project. The project, once complete, will save the hospital more than $80,000 annually in energy costs.

Senator Robach Takes Part in Puerto Rican Parade

On Saturday, July 31, Senator Robach took part in the Puerto Rican Parade in downtown Rochester. The parade started at Liberty Pole Way and ended at Frontier Field, the site of the Puerto Rican Festival, which ran from July 30th until August 1st.
