Extreme Heat Forecast Prompts Health Department Caution

With temperatures forecasted to be in the 90s over the next several days coupled with high humidity, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks and County Health Director Dr. Andrew Doniger are cautioning residents to be alert for symptoms of heat-related illness and to take common sense measures. Particularly at-risk from very hot weather are infants, young children and older people.

City Recreation Centers, Pools, Spray Parks Ready for Summer Vacation!

Now that school is out, Recreation Centers around the city will begin their summer programming, which will run from June 28 through August 20, generally from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities at the centers range from sports and games to swimming, meals, nature activities, arts and crafts, community service projects, and more. Area High Schools Make NEWSWEEK Best High Schools List

A number of area high schools, including four in the 56th Senate District, made NEWSWEEK magazine's Best High Schools in America list. Each year, NEWSWEEK picks the best high schools in the country based on how hard school staffs work to challenge students with advanced-placement college-level courses and tests. Just over 1.600 schools—only 6 percent of all the public schools in the U.S.—made the list.

Senator Robach Statement on Passing of Andrew Langston

It is with great sadness today that I mourn the passing of one of the great men of our community, Mr. Andrew Langston. Mr. Langston was a leader within the City of Rochester and across our area. In his 81 years, Mr. Langston was able to take a radio station created on borrowed money and build it into the oldest and greatest African American owned radio station in the United States. The station he created was not just a source of music, but rather a source of hope for all people; an inspiration that anything is possible despite socio-economic limits. Mr.

Town of Greece Plans Arbor Day Tree Planting

Tree Planting will be in memory of Hunter Thomas Resch

Greece Supervisor John Auberger announced that plans are underway for the Town’s 2010 Arbor Day Tree Planting. This year a tree will be planted in memory of Hunter Thomas Resch, a 7 year old resident of the Town of Greece, who was a Cub Scout and attended Paddy Hill Elementary. Hunter was killed earlier this year in a tragic murder-suicide.

The tree planting will take place at the Greece Town Hall, 1 Vince Tofany Blvd., on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 3:00 p.m.

Hilton Middle School Honored as 'School to Watch'

“Essential Elements School to Watch" designation for Merton Williams Middle School from NYS Education Department; national award ceremony June 24 in Washington, DC

Principal Carol Stehm of Hilton Central School District's Merton Williams Middle School has announced that the school was designated a 2010 Essential Elements School to Watch by the New York State Education Department's Schools to Watch Leadership Team. “This really is about our staff and the work they do everyday,” Principal Stehm said. “It’s the dedication to the students that truly makes us a school to watch.”

The following is a response from Senator Robach regarding Governor Paterson's call to spend almost $800,000 on trailers to be used for conjugal and family visits at the Five Points Correctional Facility in Seneca County. "Spending almost one million in tax payer dollars on something like this is offensive to working f...amilies, who are struggling during these challenging economic times. I refuse to support such wasteful spending of the people's money."

New York Senator Joe Robach introduced a new jobs initiative program at PGM Corporation in Rochester Thursday afternoon.


The senator said the proposal focuses on four key components: cap on state spending, job creation tax credit, small business tax freedom plan, and a red tape moratorium plan.

Spaghetti Dinner for Barnard Fire Department's Johnathan Davis

On Sunday, January 17th, from Noon until 6:00 p.m., the Barnard Fire Department is hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Johnathan Davis, a member of its explorer post. Johnathan, a 16-year old, and a junior at Greece Odyssey, suffered a seizure caused by a cancerous brain tumor in July, 2009.
