2013 Monroe County Special Olympics Track & Field Games

Today, I had the opportunity to join hundreds of participants and their families at the 2013 Monroe County Special Olympics Track and Field Games at Lebeau Field at Hilton High School. I would like to thank Hilton Central School District for hosting the event. A special thank you to those who have been involved in making this year's Special Olympics such a huge success! Everyone was a winner today!

We discussed the duties of state government and what students need to do to be successful throughout high school and beyond. State Senator Joe Robach announces the induction of Ray Melens, an active member in the Rochester veteran community, to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame on Tuesday May 21st. This honor is designed to pay tribute to New Yorkers whose gallantry in the U.S. Armed Forces is complimented by their service to the community and their accomplishments as a civilian.

2013 Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester Pink Ribbon Run and Walk

Sunday, the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester held it's 12th Annual Pink Ribbon Run and Walk. This year's event moved to Genesee Valley Park. More than 4,000 people took part in the run and walk, which raises money for breast cancer research. All of the funds raised stay right here locally. Greece Police Name K9 Dog After Fallen Webster Police Officer

Earlier this afternoon, the Greece Police Department held a ceremony to name their newest Greece Police K9 dog. The dog is named 'Chip', in honor of fallen officer, Lt. Mike Chiapperini of the Webster Police Department and West Webster Fire Department. It is tradition in law enforcement to honor fallen heroes by naming a canine after them. Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter, along with Webster Police Department Chief Gerald Pickering.

Grace Tillinghast Honored as NYS Woman of Distinction

Senator Robach recently recognized Grace Tillinghast of Gates with the New York State Senate’s 2013 Woman of Distinction Award in Albany.

2013 Police Officers Memorial Remembrance Ceremony

Earlier today, I was on hand to honor 16 fallen police officers from New York State. Included in those remembered today was Lt. Mike Chiapperini from Webster, who was killed on Christmas Eve as he responded with fellow volunteer firefighters to a fire in Webster. The black granite memorial lists the names of more than 1,300 police officers, state troopers, sheriff's deputies, and other law enforcement personnel who have died in the line of duty in New York state.

Walkers Raise Money to Help Fight MS

On Sunday, May 5th, the 2013 Greece MS Walk was held, beginning at Greece Olympia High School. Funds raised give hope to the more than 12,800 people living with MS in Upstate New York, and help support life-changing programs and cutting-edge research. The walk has taken place since 1988 and has raised more than $10 million dollars to help support people living with MS.

Boy Scouts Community Breakfast

On Friday morning, I had the privilege to speak at a Boy Scouts community breakfast in Greece. During the breakfast, a local scout, Aaron Adams received the heroism award for his quick actions which saved the life of his friend who suffered a severe and life threatening injury from falling on a glass chard. Aaron is from Boy Scout Troop 99 in Hilton.
