New York State Senate Youth Leadership Recognition Awards

February is Youth Leadership Month and the New York State Senate is highlighting the occasion by encouraging participation in the Youth Leadership Recognition Awards program, which is designed to recognize the outstanding young students who will become our State’s future leaders.

The program is designed to highlight and congratulate well-rounded students who excel academically and have exhibited leadership through extracurricular or volunteer activities. Current juniors and seniors are eligible to participate. Students must be nominated by a teacher, administrator, counselor or other school faculty member. A student can ask a faculty member to nominate them or a faculty member can initiate the process by recommending a student deserving of special recognition.

Say 'NO' to taxpayer-funded college for inmates

Governor Andrew Cuomo has proposed a plan that would provide college-level education at 10 state prisons, at a cost to taxpayers of about $5,000 per inmate per year. There are an estimated 54,500 inmates currently confined in state prisons.

Hard-working families, many of whom have never run afoul of the law, are struggling to put together the money to send their children to college. New York should not be giving inmates a free education at the same time.

Join the Fight -- Say NO to a New $4,500 Tax Increase for New York Families!

I agree with you Senator Griffo -- Enough is Enough!  The Federal government has been hammering New Yorkers with higher and higher taxes for far too long, and I strongly oppose the new “double-taxation” scheme now being considered in Washington D.C.  New Yorkers can’t afford a $4,500 tax increase!
