Griffo: PSC Should Reject National Grid Rate Increase Proposal

(Albany) - Citing the free-spending ways of National Grid’s top executives and contrasting that to the desperate plight of working families across the 47th District, Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R-IP-C, Rome) today called upon the state Public Service Commission to reject the utility’s request for a $296 million increase in electric rates.

The Senate Energy Committee, of which Griffo is the Ranking Minority member, held a hearing this morning on the proposal. Griffo pointedly questioned National Grid executives and representatives of the PSC who were there to give testimony.

NY SENATE TO CONVENE MASSIVE CYBERSECURITY HEARING IN ROME

ROME - Six Senate committees will hold a joint hearing at noon Monday to hear testimony from experts in law enforcement, finance and computer science about the state’s preparedness against cyber-attacks.

“Cyber crime is a major economic issue, resulting in more than $500 million in losses last year alone,” said Sen. Joseph A. Griffo, who chairs the Senate Banking Committee and is hosting the event. “There’s a reason why England considers it an even greater threat than nuclear war. We need to take a closer look at what our state is doing to prevent cyberattacks that could affect our security, our economy and our government.”

Senator Griffo Statement on Alcoa Announcement

"I’m disappointed to hear of Alcoa’s decision to close its remaining two potlines at the East Plant earlier than originally planned. My hope is that the company takes advantage of state and federal programs to help its affected workers transition to new jobs within or outside the organization. My office stands ready to assist anyone who is left without adequate employment as a result of this decision.
