Griffo: Legislation Already Exists to Launch Reform Plan
Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R-IP-C, Rome) today called upon Senate Democrats who have voiced support of Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo to show that support by embracing the reform package of Senate bills he has sponsored.
Senator Griffo voted against emergency spending that would allow the Senate to take a weeklong recess despite the looming budget deadline. On the floor of the Senate, Griffo explained his 'no' vote: "I just think it’s unacceptable. We should continue to work and strive for this community objective and the responsibility that has been entrusted to us. For that reason, I vote no."
Griffo: Local Schools Use Opportunity To Press For Balance in Education Aid
Balance was the critical issue addressed by local school leaders who this week accepted Senator Joseph A. Griffo’s offer to meet personally with Senate Education Committee Chair John Flanagan to discuss school aid in the coming state budget.
Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R-C-IP, Rome) said the budget compromise unveiled in Albany fulfils a promise made to the people of the 47th District and all of New York to make fiscal responsibility the top issue in Albany.
“No one enjoys passing a budget that makes painful cuts, but this was a hard dose of fiscal reality that was necessary,” Griffo said. “For agencies looking for money, this will not be a good budget. For taxpayers wondering if the state has heard their voices, it’s an encouraging sign.”
