As with any community project rumor or proposal, once it hits the streets of the community, it opens a can of worms regarding possible issues. On this September 11, the thirteenth anniversary of the tragic events witnessed by our city and nation, we take a moment to pay homage to all those we lost that day. We express our appreciation for all the individuals who took part in our country's largest rescue and recovery, especially our FDNY, NYPD, EMS and other uniformed personnel, and we are reminded of the need to support our military who remain vigilant in the fight against the evil and hatred of terrorists. May God continue to bless our great city, state and country.

Yesterday’s Rockaway Ferry rally at City Hall showed many things to Mayor Bill de Blasio and his administration, most notably that in tough times we will always come together as a community and also we will not back down. I have said it before and will continue to say it – in a budget of $75 billion, the city could and should allocate funds needed to make the ferry service permanent seven days a week. Traditionally, the isolated Rockaway Peninsula is ignored and oftentimes ostracized from the rest of the city, but we will continue to take a stand.

I believe individuals suffering from serious illnesses should have access to the medically necessary treatments that would help them cope with their situation. The approval of medical marijuana will help New Yorkers, who currently experience debilitating illnesses and endure great pain and suffering, will have the opportunity to seek relief as prescribed by authorized medical professionals. I supported this bill and its safeguards that will ensure that the medical marijuana program cannot be abused.
