Rockaway Park (July 30, 2014) – Seventy-four years ago, Leonard Miller, a WWII veteran, constructed his very own flagpole to stand proudly outside his Rockaway Park home. However, when Superstorm Sandy came through, it destroyed the creation beyond repair.
Last week we lost one of the strongest and most ardent advocates for veterans I have ever met, Pat Toro. His devotion and commitment to our country and to the needs of our veterans will always be admired.
Queens, NY (June 30, 2014): In an effort to create a safer home environment and to help homeowners who have hazardous cock lofts in their residences that may present significant fire hazards, State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr. recently sponsored and passed legislation (S.5944) at the end of the State Senate session to provide incentives for the removal of these dangerous structures.
I believe individuals suffering from serious illnesses should have access to the medically necessary treatments that would help them cope with their situation. The approval of medical marijuana will help New Yorkers, who currently experience debilitating illnesses and endure great pain and suffering, will have the opportunity to seek relief as prescribed by authorized medical professionals. I supported this bill and its safeguards that will ensure that the medical marijuana program cannot be abused.

Queens, NY (May 22, 2014) – Michelle Villagomez, a Forest Hills resident and ASPCA representative, met with her State Senator, Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., in Albany to advocate for legislation in an effort to stop animal cruelty. In addition to supporting Villagomez and the ASPCA, Senator Addabbo is an avid supporter and co-sponsor of several bills related to ending abuse against animals.

Addabbo, Jr. had the privilege of honoring Marissa Bernowitz, a well-known Rockaway disaster relief activist who was displaced from her home in Hurricane Sandy, but who immediately turned her energies to helping others in her community who also suffered tremendous losses in the horrific October 2012 superstorm.

Queens, NY (May 6, 2014) – At a full board hearing this morning of the State Liquor Authority (SLA), the Knockdown Center and applicant DMI Inc. were denied their full liquor license to serve over 600 patrons.
Queens, NY (May 1, 2014): In order to help veterans’ organizations avoid hefty, unaffordable fines for minor building and other code violations, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. has been advancing legislation (S.2962) to provide these groups with 120 days to fix problems before fines are assessed. The bill was recently approved by the full State Senate after clearing the Senate Consumer Protection Committee.

Kew Gardens, NY (April 17, 2014) – State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. wants to lend a helping hand to the growing senior community and seniors who are looking to work. The Senator is hosting a Job Fair for those 50 years old and over.
While at the funeral for Police Officer Dennis Guerra, I kept thinking to myself that while it was the dedicated intention of Guerra and his partner, Police Officer Rosa Rodriguez, to go towards a dangerous situation to help save others, it is now our intention to pray for his soul and for his family, as well as the full recovery of Police Officer Rodriguez.
State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. participated in P.S. 254 The Rosa Parks School’s annual Read Aloud. This year, school officials chose Of Thee I Sing by President Barack Obama which is comprised of short biographies of influential and inspirational American heroes.
