Senator Addabbo: Law Requires Sex Offender, Abuse Screening for Jobs Working with Children
Queens, NY, July 16, 2010 -- NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach) announced the passing of legislation in the Senate (S6998A) which will help prevent employers from hiring registered sex offenders and those guilty of child abuse for jobs that require a significant time spent around children.
While hiring policies utilized by public schools already include background checks and ensure this security for children, other organizations do not currently practice similar diligence.
On Tuesday, October 19th NYS Senator Addabbo sponsored an event for people who are struggling due to the difficult economic times. Along with Feed the Children and Avon 1200 local residents were provided with one box of food, one box daily essentials and a box of Avon products. Over 40 volunteers and Mr. Met help distribute the items.
Queens, NY, August 1, 2011 – On Thursday, July 28, NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., co- sponsored a Senior Sunset Supper that included a Health Care Proxy seminar at Sugar Bun Bakery, 156-22 Crossbay Boulevard, Howard Beach, with elder law attorneys and partners at Brady & Marshak, Linda Marshak and Nancy Brady, R.N. The event kicked off the law firm’s “Health Care Proxy for All” campaign.
Queens, NY, September 19, 2011 -- I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with Feed the Children (Wednesday, September 14, in Forest Park) in order to address the growing issue of people living in poverty. At the event, families were given boxes of food, toiletries and Avon products, all totaling approximately $160. The long and lingering effects of the recession have caused families to struggle to put food on the table; they don’t have the purchasing power to help the economy recover.
