STATEMENT ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA

I believe individuals suffering from serious illnesses should have access to the medically necessary treatments that would help them cope with their situation. The approval of medical marijuana will help New Yorkers, who currently experience debilitating illnesses and endure great pain and suffering, will have the opportunity to seek relief as prescribed by authorized medical professionals. I supported this bill and its safeguards that will ensure that the medical marijuana program cannot be abused.

Kew Gardens, NY (June 3, 2014) – Over 700 seniors filed through the doors of the Queens Community House to partake in State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr.’s 50+ Job Fair. The line went out the door and down the block as hopefuls came to speak to representatives from more than 20 companies looking to hire.

ADDABBO NAMES SERPHIN MALTESE TO NYS SENATE VETERANS HALL OF FAME

Queens, NY (May 27, 2014) – Before he was a 10-term State Senator and before he worked as an attorney, Serphin Maltese was a member of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. took the opportunity to honor Maltese and selected him to be enrolled in the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.

ADDABBO MEETS WITH CONSTITUENT ASPCA REPRESENTATIVE, CONTINUES WORK TO FIGHT ANIMAL CRUELTY

Queens, NY (May 22, 2014) – Michelle Villagomez, a Forest Hills resident and ASPCA representative, met with her State Senator, Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., in Albany to advocate for legislation in an effort to stop animal cruelty. In addition to supporting Villagomez and the ASPCA, Senator Addabbo is an avid supporter and co-sponsor of several bills related to ending abuse against animals.

Serphin R. Maltese

Serphin R. Maltese was born in Corona Queens, growing up on the Lower East Side. He graduated from PS 63, JHS 64 and then from Stuyvesant High School, before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps Reserve at 17 years of age. When the Korean War began, Mr. Maltese volunteered for the U.S. Army and served as Corporal in the 45th Infantry Division in Korea. He attended Manhattan College on a Regents Scholarship and GI Bill and received his Bachelor of Arts degree. Mr. Maltese was awarded the War Service Scholarship, and received his LL.B. and J.D. degrees from Fordham University Law School.

ADDABBO RECOGNIZES MARISSA BERNOWITZ AS A WOMAN OF DISTINCTION IN STATE SENATE CEREMONY

Queens, NY (May 14, 2014) – At a State Capitol ceremony in Albany, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. had the privilege of honoring Marissa Bernowitz, a well-known Rockaway disaster relief activist who was displaced from her home in Hurricane Sandy, but who immediately turned her energies to helping others in her community who also suffered tremendous losses in the horrific October 2012 superstorm.
