ADDABBO CO-SPONSORS BILL INCREASING PENALTIES FOR ANIMAL FIGHTING; VOTES IN FAVOR OF HUMANE ANIMAL BILLS

Queens, NY, June 7, 2011 –  NYS Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., (D-Queens) announced the passing of animal rights legislation in the Senate as part of the 1st annual New York State Animal Advocacy Day on June 1.  Among the passed bills were S.946, S.3317 and S.3237, which was co-sponsored by Senator Addabbo.  The bill was in relation to increasing the penalties for those convicted of violating the prohibition of animal fighting.  Passing this day,

ADDABBO SUPPORTS CRACKING DOWN ON IRRESPONSIBLE & UNDER-AGE DRIVERS

Queens, NY, May 24, 2011 – In order to make New York State roads safer and to protect the safety of law-abiding drivers, NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Queens) introduced a bill, S.1271/A.4190, to the Senate that amends the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to increasing the penalties for driving with a suspended or revoked license. The bill is now in the Senate's Committee on Transportation; if passed, it will take effect immediately.

Maria A. Thomson

Maria A. Thomson has been a staple in her Queens community for over 30 years. After seeing the devastating toll a ­ fire took on the local library, Ms. Thomson became very concerned about its renovation. Ultimately, the ­ re became the catalyst for her contacting the Woodhaven Residents’ Block Association (WRBA).

Serving as President of WRBA for the last six years, Ms. Thomson has a litany of accomplishments under her belt, including keeping a bar from re-opening on the scene of two homicides, reporting over 1,000 illegal conversions in the community, and gaining a Real Estate Non-Solicitation Order and a Cease and Desist Order for Queens. Ms. Thomson is also one of the founders of the Woodhaven Residents’ Security Patrol.
