STATEMENT BY NYS SENATOR JOSEPH P. ADDABBO, JR. ON RELEASE OF FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT ON HYDROFRACKING IN NEW YORK STATE

Queens, NY (May 14, 2015): NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., a member of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee and long-time opponent of  hydraulic fracturing in New York State, released the following statement after yesterday’s release by the State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) of the Final Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement on hydrofracking:

 “After seven years, more than 260,000 public comments, an extensive scientific examination of the impacts of hydrofracking on our environment and the public health, and a full consideration of the potential benefits and shortcomings of this method of high-volume gas drilling, it appears that fracking is on its way to being completely banned in New York State.

STATE SENATE APPROVES ADDABBO BILL TO PROVIDE VETERAN ORGANIZATIONS WITH 120 DAYS TO REMEDY VIOLATIONS

Queens, NY (May 4, 2015): In order to help veterans’ organizations avoid hefty, unaffordable monetary fines for minor building and other code violations, NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. has been advancing legislation (S.2495) to provide these groups with 120 days to fix problems before fines are assessed.  The bill was recently approved by the full State Senate after previously clearing the Senate Consumer Protection Committee.

STATE SENATOR JOSEPH P. ADDABBO, JR. STATEMENT ON BUDGET 2015-2016

"While there are many positive items in our state budget, it can also be spoken of in terms of lost opportunities. Additional funding for our schools, veterans, libraries and seniors are in a state budget that also falls short of real ethics reform, less reliance on state tests, and shortchanges individuals with disabilities. I am hopeful that items that were intentionally omitted from the budget, such as paid family leave and campaign reform, will be addressed during the remainder of the legislative session."

It is atrocious to even think people who lost everything in Sandy have been shortchanged or taken advantage of.

ADDABBO TALKS BULLYING, CYBER BULLYING AT P.S. 88 DURING "RESPECT FOR ALL" WEEK

The P.S. 88 administration and staff in Ridgewood participated in raising awareness and teaching their students about "respect for all" and highlighting the dangers of bullying and cyber bullying. The children made anti-bullying posters, took part in discussions with guidance counselors and most recently sat in on an assembly with State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr.

ADDABBO DELIVERS ELA STUDENTS’ VALENTINE’S DAY CARDS TO ST. ALBANS VETERANS’ HOSPITAL

Children from five different continents found themselves in one third grade English Language Arts class at P.S. 88 in Ridgewood making Valentine's Day cards for local veterans. State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr., Ranking Member of the Senate Veterans Committee, visited the class and spoke about the importance of the holiday and caring for one another, especially veterans. The students, many of them bilingual, shared their own thoughts on what Valentine's Day and veterans mean to them. Addabbo took the children's handmade cards and delivered them just in time for the holiday to the St. Albans Veterans Hospital.

State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr. presented New York State Senate Citations to Boy Scouts Troop 139 in Howard Beach after the boys received the Arrow of Light Achievement Award, the highest rank in Cub scouting. The Senator thanked the Troop Masters, leaders, parents, grandparents, family and friends for their guidance and assistance to troop members.

ADDABBO AWARDS MASPETH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY

State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr. presented Maspeth High School students with the National Honors Society citations for their exceptional volunteerism and community service. The Senator was extremely impressed with both the students and the school, including its moot court room. Addabbo expressed his thanks to the participating students and the school administration, Assistant Principal Mario Matos and Principal Khurshid Abdul-Mutakabbir.
