Howard Beach, NY (April 25, 2014) – State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. brought members of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Sandy Recovery team to Howard Beach to hear firsthand from residents struggling with the Build it Back program.

Kew Gardens, NY (April 17, 2014) – State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. wants to lend a helping hand to the growing senior community and seniors who are looking to work. The Senator is hosting a Job Fair for those 50 years old and over.
While at the funeral for Police Officer Dennis Guerra, I kept thinking to myself that while it was the dedicated intention of Guerra and his partner, Police Officer Rosa Rodriguez, to go towards a dangerous situation to help save others, it is now our intention to pray for his soul and for his family, as well as the full recovery of Police Officer Rodriguez.
State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. participated in P.S. 254 The Rosa Parks School’s annual Read Aloud. This year, school officials chose Of Thee I Sing by President Barack Obama which is comprised of short biographies of influential and inspirational American heroes.
Generally, this state budget is the fourth consecutive, on-time, fiscally responsible budget. It addresses the need to control spending, assist the middle class and improve educational opportunities for our children.

Queens, NY, March 31, 2014 – Changes to New York State schools’ Common Core are coming, and State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. and fellow legislators are prepared to monitor how and when the changes are executed.
Queens, NY (March 25, 2014): Earlier this week, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. and his colleagues responded to concerns of New York’s veterans and passed a bill in which businesses owned by service-disabled veterans will receive 6 percent of state contracts and a Division of Service-Disabled Veterans’ Business Development will be established within the State Office of General Services.
Middle Village, NY, March 21, 2014 – Nursing students from Long Island University sat down with State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. to express their support for new, patient-related legislation and to ask the senator to be their “voice to the health care industry.”
I truly believe the proposed changes to the implementation of the Common Core standards delivered by the Board of Regents are a direct result of the outcry heard from parents, teachers and administrators. We should consider these proposals in light of the major, valid concerns raised and the goal of providing the best educational environment and opportunity for our children. The issues related to the roll-out of the Common Core standards and its effect on the curriculum and testing of our students is far from over.
Queens, NY (January 27, 2014): During a very lengthy and occasionally contentious Senate Education Committee meeting with NYS Education Commissioner John B. King, Jr., NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Queens) and his colleagues posed serious questions to the Commissioner about the implementation of the controversial “Common Core” learning standards in New York schools, and expressed their concerns about excessive testing, how the tests affect teacher evaluations, the privacy of student data, and a number of other related issues.

Addabbo, Jr. (D-Queens) voted to approve two pieces of important legislation: one to protect the privacy of student and educator records (S.6007) and another that would require a comprehensive analysis of the effectiveness and fairness of the controversial new “Common Core” assessments (S.6009).

Queens, NY, October 21, 2013 – NYS Senator Joe Addabbo (D-Queens) held his 8th Job Fair at Glendale’s Atlas Park Mall last Friday, October 18. Over 100 vendors offered roughly 1200 job opportunities to the attendees. The senator is planning another Job Fair for Spring 2014.
