Faster Field and Blood Alcohol Level Testing Would Strengthen Investigations of Serious Accidents

May 6, 2014 – Senator Ken LaValle said today that the Senate passed legislation to help police investigate deadly automobile accidents by requiring field testing and blood alcohol level checks by law enforcement officers.

Senator LaValle said, “We have worked to strengthen Driving While Intoxicated laws time and time again with the thought that by increasing penalties, the public would become further educated as to the devastating consequences.  This bill would give enforcement increased ability and another tool to keep more drunk drivers off the road, which would better protect the public.”

Senate Passes LaValle Bill To Compel Regents To Be More Transparent When Imposing Mandates

April 30, 2014 – The NY State Senate today passed Senator Ken LaValle’s legislation to require more openness when the Board of Regents adopt mandates that impose new costs on local School Districts.   The bill (Senate 1564) requires the Board of Regents to disclose financial ramifications and identify sources of funding to meet requirements as they consider program or policy changes.

Senator Ken LaValle Obtains Record State Aid For Our Local Schools

March 31, 2014 –  State Senator Ken LaValle announced that the newly adopted state budget includes a $1.1 billion increase in aid for education.  According to Senator LaValle, this budget will enact the most generous and comprehensive education aid package in recent memory.   Every school district in the First Senatorial District will see an increase in state aid this year.  There was also a major step taken towards the elimination of the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA).
