SENATE PASSES LAVALLE BILL TO CURB CHEATING ON ACADEMIC PAPERS

The New York State Senate today passed a bill to prevent students from cheating by prohibiting the sale or purchase of dissertations, term papers, and similar academic documents online. The legislation (S2405), sponsored by Senator Kenneth LaValle (R-C-I, Port Jefferson), would prevent academic fraud by discouraging Internet-based services from selling educational papers to students.

LaValle: Families and Students Please Plant A Tree and Send Me Photos!

Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on our region, cut power to millions of homes and businesses from the Carolinas to Ohio and disrupted the presidential campaign.

The storm also ravaged trees and greenery around our homes and neighborhoods, and we’re just beginning to see the long term damage some trees and shrubs suffered While seemingly intact, many trees are shocked and brown from the lashing by hurricane-force, salt laden winds. Some probably won’t survive.

LaValle: State Budget Includes Nearly $7 million for Local Roads and Bridges

 

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle (R,C,I-Port Jefferson) today announced that the 2013-2014 New York State Budget will include $75 million of increased funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS).

“This nearly $7 million in funding for towns and villages in the First Senatorial District will allow us to put New York back to work by repairing roads and bridges,” said Senator LaValle.

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle said today that Senate Republicans announced a bold job creation plan to improve New York’s business climate.

LaValle: Senate Republicans Announce Middle Class Tax Relief Act

The New York State Senate Republican Conference today unveiled the Family Tax Relief Act, a package of tax relief and reform measures designed to provide an economic boost to New York’s struggling middle class families.  

The Senate Republican plan would increase tax breaks that have not kept pace with inflation, and, in some instances, haven’t been adjusted for more than 25 years.  The plan also restores the STAR property tax rebate check program to provide real and direct relief to millions of New Yorkers who pay some of the highest property taxes in the country.

LaValle Bill to Help Commercial Fishermen Passes Senate.

A  bill to help commercial fishermen by allowing them to aggregate their daily catch limits over a seven day period and conserve fuel passed the Senate today it was announced by New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle (R-C-I, Port Jefferson), the sponsor of the bill.

LaValle said his bill  (S.1762) allows fishermen, for example, to catch three times the daily catch limit on Monday and two times the limit on Wednesday and then stay off the water until the following Monday when a consecutive period of seven days is complete. The bill also allows individuals with different fishing licenses to go out and catch each of their daily limits from the same boat (currently prohibited).

Senator LaValle Presents Liberty Award

Southampton, NY—David Lopez, Director of Facilities Management and Engineering, and his staff of 13 at Southampton Hospital, were awarded a New York State Senate Liberty Award, by New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle today.  

One of the highest civilian honors that New Yorker's can receive, the Liberty Award was created in 2000 and is presented  to individuals who have merited special commendation for exceptional, heroic or humanitarian acts and achievements on behalf of their fellow New Yorkers.

LaValle Bill Establishes School Tax Cap for Seniors.

A bill to amend the real property tax law to establish a capped real property school tax rate for persons 70 years of age or older who meet the eligibility requirements for the enhanced STAR exemption has been introduced in the New York State Senate by Senator Kenneth P. LaValle (R,C,I –Port Jefferson).

The bill, Senator LaValle said, provides seniors with a choice depending on individual circumstances. Seniors, under the bill, can either have their real property school tax rate frozen as of the day that they turn 70 years of age or receive a STAR rebate check.

LaValle: Let Energy Tax Expire

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle has urged Governor Andrew Cuomo to remove the proposed extension of the utility tax surcharge from his Executive Budget. 

 The 18-a surcharge, which has increased utility bills for every ratepayer in the state,  is scheduled to expire on March 31, 2014.  The Governor’s proposed five-year extension would cost businesses and consumers a total of almost $3 billion.

STAR is a tax relief program that lowers property taxes for owner-occupied primary residences. There are two levels of STAR benefits: Basic STAR and Enhanced STAR.
