LaValle Bill Will Help Reduce Social Service Fraud and Abuse

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle today announced that his legislation (S1770) allowing county, city and town social services departments to enter into an agreement with the State Department of Health granting access to the official list of death certificates on file with the Department passed the New York State Senate today.

The State Department of Health maintains the official list of all death certificates filed in New York.

“Death certificates,” Senator LaValle explained, “are not public records and acquiring them can be onerous for social service agencies.”

LaValle Bill: Split Child Support Payment Fee Equitably

 

The New York State Senate passed legislation (S.783) by Senator Kenneth P. LaValle (R-C-I, Port Jefferson) that will split fees on child support payments between the custodial and non-custodial parent. The entire fee is now borne by the custodial parent.

LaValle Legislation: School Districts Must Notify Parents of Sex Offenders

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle’s legislation requiring a school district to notify students’ parents about the presence of sex offenders in their community once the district is notified by law enforcement officials, passed the New York State Senate today. The legislation provides funding to reimburse school districts for their costs related to complying with the requirement.

“Megan's Law requires that level two and level three sex offenders register with local law enforcement agencies,” Senator LaValle said. “The law enforcement agencies may distribute information including the offender’s name, picture, address, location of employment and background information.”

SENATE PASSES LAVALLE BILL TO CURB CHEATING ON ACADEMIC PAPERS

The New York State Senate today passed a bill to prevent students from cheating by prohibiting the sale or purchase of dissertations, term papers, and similar academic documents online. The legislation (S2405), sponsored by Senator Kenneth LaValle (R-C-I, Port Jefferson), would prevent academic fraud by discouraging Internet-based services from selling educational papers to students.

Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on our region, cut power to millions of homes and businesses from the Carolinas to Ohio and disrupted the presidential campaign. 

The storm also ravaged trees and greenery around our homes and neighborhoods, and we’re just beginning to see the long term damage some trees and shrubs suffered While seemingly intact,  many trees are shocked and brown from the lashing by hurricane-force, salt laden winds. Some probably won’t survive.

LaValle: State Budget Includes Nearly $7 million for Local Roads and Bridges

 

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle (R,C,I-Port Jefferson) today announced that the 2013-2014 New York State Budget will include $75 million of increased funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS).

“This nearly $7 million in funding for towns and villages in the First Senatorial District will allow us to put New York back to work by repairing roads and bridges,” said Senator LaValle.
