This is a disease that has touched millions of lives including my own and many people in my Senate district. I watched my own brother who was an intravenous drug user, waste away from this awful, debilitating disease. It is a painful burden to bear. And so I understand what it is like for the millions of families around the world who live through a similar experience.
Brooklyn lawmaker said. “Despite Legislative additions made to the Governor’s proposal, Senate Democrats reduced the Medicaid annual growth rate from an unsustainable 8 percent to 1.7 percent. That’s all the more remarkable when you consider the rate has been at 8 percent since 2001.”Senator Parker noted that Medicaid spending in New York next year would have reached $48.7 billion, or nearly 35 percent of the state budget, had strong steps not been initiated.
“The MTA’s decision to raise transit fares and cut services for workers, seniors, and students in New York City proves just how out of touch they are from the problems of the people they are charged to serve. Every New Yorker has to tighten their belt, why not the MTA?
I oppose the MTA’s plan to impose tolls on NYC drivers, I oppose this latest massive and unwarranted fare increase, and I oppose the MTA’s desire to impose a large, new “mobility” payroll tax on downstate workers and businesses. There is a better way.
