Senator Parker passes a bill to save 16 Daycare Centers in Brooklyn

(Albany, New York) Today- Governor Paterson signed landmark legislation that means all  all day care centers in New York City have to give 12 months notice prior to closing.  “This is a victory for working families,” said Senator Parker (D-21). “There are thousands of families in New York City who are dependent on city run daycare centers and this will give them the time needed to find a new facility if their day care provider faces closure.” The move came after New York City announced last February it planned to close 16 day care centers at the end of the school year. These closures would have resulted in 772 children, most of whom are minorities needing to find alternative childcare arrangements, by the end of the school year.
