Senator Kevin Parker Calls for Support of Legislation to Improve Emergency Responses Involving ‘Emotionally Disturbed’

(Brooklyn, NY) –  Today, State Senator Kevin Parker stood in solidarity with Communities for Crisis Intervention Teams (www.ccitnyc.org) – a coalition of 50 behavioral health providers and concerned citizens, and Brooklyn Borough President and retired New York Police Department Captain, Eric Adams, on City Hall steps to urge the Governor and Mayor to support the creation of specially trained Crisis Intervention Teams (CITs). The proposed CIT training would enable the NYPD to better respond to the 100,000 ‘emotionally disturbed person’ (EDP) calls received annually.

Senator Parker Applauds Gov. Cuomo’s Initiative to Reduce Recidivism

(Brooklyn, NY)  - “I believe Governor Cuomo’s progressive move to dramatically reduce New York State’s 40 percent prison recidivism rate is exactly the type of forward thinking move New York needs,” said Senator Kevin Parker. “Resurrecting New York’s historic policy of providing incarcerated individuals with the opportunity to earn a college degree in prisons across New York is a good investment in reducing recidivism and creates a pathway away from crime for prison inmates.“

On Tuesday, May 20, 2014, Senator Parker interviewed Darryl C. Towns, whom in 2011 was appointed by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to lead NYS Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) as Commissioner/CEO. HCR includes all the state’s integrated housing and community renewal agencies and programs, and implements the Governor’s bold housing and community renewal agenda.
