Senator Parker Expresses Concern for the Victims of the Federal Government's Shutdown

(Brooklyn, NY) - “Speaker Boehner and Congressional Republicans’ actions last night in shutting down the federal government will create significant hardship for New York’s working families. Starting today, the families of over 50,000 federal employees in New York City will not be able to pay their bills. As the temperature cools, families that receive support from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will be hurt. In addition, federal grants that fund elder abuse protection, senior services, veterans, and child care will not be disbursed, leaving our vulnerable populations without vital services. Additionally, children from low-income families who attend Head Start will lose access to this important childhood development program.

SENATOR PARKER OFFERS FREE FLU SHOTS TO SENIORS AND CHILDREN

Brooklyn, NY-  Yesterday, Senator Kevin Parker and event sponsors Citi Home Helath Care Services and WellCare, provided free influenza vaccinations for seniors and children in his district as part of a broad-reaching effort to keep his constituents and Brooklyn residents healthy. More than 50 free flu shots were administered by certified nurse practitioners from Walgreen’s Pharmacy.

SENATOR PARKER ADVOCATES KEEPING FAMILIES TOGETHER

Brooklyn, NY- On Monday, November 18, Senator Kevin Parker was one of two featured guests at the screening and discussion of the movie Fighting for Freedom at Albany Law School. The Senator’s co-panelist was Terminator 3 star, the actress and producer, Kristanna Loken. The discussion was moderated by the Law school’s Associate Dean Alicia Oullette and Albany Law professor Sarah Rogerson, who leads the school’s Immigration Project.

Senator Parker Urges Gov. Cuomo to Call Special Election for 11 Vacant Seats

In a letter to Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senator Parker requested the Governor to hold special elections to provide elected representatives for the 11 principally African-American and Latino districts that are without current legislative representation.

This piece of progressive legislation was brought to the floor earlier this evening and if passed, would have ensured immigrant children, in search of the American dream through educational access and financial aid, the road map to success.

Senate Republicans failed our young people. Not a single member of the Republican Conference voted yes. Not a single member of the Republicans voted yes for opportunity or yes for equality.

Brooklyn, NY- Over 300 eager high school seniors walked away from Brooklyn’s Samuel Tilden High School with their free ‘dream’ gown from Senator Kevin Parker’s 7th Annual Free Prom Dress Giveaway event on Saturday, May 10, 2014. Young ladies and parents traveled from neighboring and outer-borough  schools to begin the selection process of their prom attire as the highly anticipated prom season for high school seniors quickly approaches.

Senator Parker Announces Support For New Mothers And Their Families

(Brooklyn, NY) - Senator Kevin Parker today announced new support by New York for post-partum services to new mothers and their families. The legislation signed into law today was introduced by Senator Liz Krueger, cosponsored by Senator Parker and five other Senators, and passed both houses of the Legislature with bi-partisan support.

Brooklyn, NY – For the seventh consecutive year, State Senator Kevin Parker and Sesame Flyers International, Inc., hosted Harvest Fest – an end-of-summer /  back-to-school celebration for Brooklyn families at Paerdegat Park on Saturday, September 6, 2014. Over 500 families came out for the event which included face painting, games, fitness and nutrition resources and CPR instruction to children and their parents.
