Senate Passes Senator Parker’s Bill to Aid Prisoners Upon their Release

(Brooklyn, NY) – Last week, the State Senate passed Senate Bill S.1353, by Senator Kevin Parker.  The bill requires that prisoners be informed of healthcare, mental healthcare and other services upon their release from state prison. In an attempt to make their reintegration into society as seamless as possible, and to safeguard our community’s public health and welfare, the former prisoners will be alerted to special programs in their communities, such as tuberculosis services, HIV/AIDS services, education, alcohol or substance abuse treatment, and other general mental health services.

Senator Parker Matches Employers with 250 Out of Work New Yorkers at Annual Job Fair

Brooklyn, NY- Yesterday, more than 250 out-of-work New Yorkers attended the 7th Annual Job Fair hosted by State Senator Kevin Parker and Councilmember Jumaane Williams at Brooklyn College’s Student Center. More than 20 organizations and companies – ranging from city and state agencies to independent retailers – connected with potential candidates to share current employment and training opportunities.

Chanukah is the celebration of Miracles!

"Chanukah is the celebration of miracles, a reminder that all things are possible," Senator Parker said.  "As you celebrate the spirit of Chanukah with friends and family, I wish you health, happiness and good fortune." The holiday celebrates a legendary victory of the Maccabees, a band of Jews, over a Greek army that occupied the Holy Land.  After the battle, the victorious Maccabees found only a one day supply of oil in the temple to light the lamps.  But the oil burned miraculously for eight days, the story says.
