SENATOR PARKER OFFERS FREE FLU SHOTS TO SENIORS AND CHILDREN

Brooklyn, NY-  Yesterday, Senator Kevin Parker and event sponsors Citi Home Helath Care Services and WellCare, provided free influenza vaccinations for seniors and children in his district as part of a broad-reaching effort to keep his constituents and Brooklyn residents healthy. More than 50 free flu shots were administered by certified nurse practitioners from Walgreen’s Pharmacy.

Senator Parker Recognizes October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

(Brooklyn, NY) -Senator Parker (D-Brooklyn) today announced that October 2013 is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“Last year 58% of female homicide victims in New York aged 16 and up were killed by an intimate partner, Senator Parker said. “That horrific violence must end, and we must work together starting with raising awareness of domestic violence in our communities and our willingness to reach out to friends, family, and neighbors to let them know that help is available and they don’t have to go it alone.”

Senator Parker Expresses Concern for the Victims of the Federal Government's Shutdown

(Brooklyn, NY) - “Speaker Boehner and Congressional Republicans’ actions last night in shutting down the federal government will create significant hardship for New York’s working families. Starting today, the families of over 50,000 federal employees in New York City will not be able to pay their bills. As the temperature cools, families that receive support from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will be hurt. In addition, federal grants that fund elder abuse protection, senior services, veterans, and child care will not be disbursed, leaving our vulnerable populations without vital services. Additionally, children from low-income families who attend Head Start will lose access to this important childhood development program.

Senator Kevin Parker Urges Governor & Mayor to Train NYPD to Address Mental Health Population

(Brooklyn, NY) –  At present, the New York Police Department (NYPD) is charged with dealing with approximately 100,000 annual 911 calls involving individuals with mental health concerns. These calls often result in traumatizing and sometimes tragic encounters between the police and individuals experiencing emotional distress.  On Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Noon, the Communities for Crisis Intervention Teams (CCIT NYC) called for creation of specially trained crisis intervention teams that can respond to the huge numbers of  emotionally disturbed person (EDP) calls the NYPD receive each year.

(Brooklyn, NY)  Today, Senator Kevin Parker held ‘Going Green, Let’s Conserve’ Day on Friday at his district office. Event partners such as Con Edison, National Grid and NYSERDA provided free energy efficient lightbulbs and tips on saving energy and reducing electric bills.

Senator Parker Advocates for Establishment of a Brooklyn Health Commission to Fix Brooklyn’s Health Care Crisis

Brooklyn, NY- On July 25th, State Senator Kevin Parker called upon Governor Cuomo to take executive action to address Brooklyn’s ongoing health crisis. The Senator’s letter requested the Governor to empanel a Brooklyn Health Commission based on the one provided for in Senator Parker’s bill, S.5916, which would conduct a comprehensive epidemiological study of Brooklyn, and analyze the borough’s health care assets in order to construct a solution that would not only fix Brooklyn’s current crisis, but would bring Brooklyn’s health care system into the 21st Century.
