Senator Parker leads Senate in passing Groundbreaking Fair Pay Act

Albany, NY) Yesterday, the State Assembly followed the Senate in passing the Wage Theft Prevention Act (WTPA). SENATOR PROTECTS CONSUMERS AGAINST ENERGY BILL INCREASES

(ALBANY, NEW YORK)  Governor Paterson signed into law a bill that will establish consumer safeguards to end aggressive tactics by energy companies offering energy supply contracts to residential and small business customers. “This legislation will ensure that New Yorkers are protected from door-to-door scammers peddling unfavorable energy supply contracts,” said Senator Kevin Parker (D-21).

Senator Parker passes a bill to save 16 Daycare Centers in Brooklyn

 (Albany, New York) Today- Governor Paterson signed landmark legislation that means all  all day care centers in New York City have to give 12 months notice prior to closing.  “This is a victory for working families,” said Senator Parker (D-21). “There are thousands of families in New York City who are dependent on city run daycare centers and this will give them the time needed to find a new facility if their day care provider faces closure.” The move came after New York City announced last February it planned to close 16 day care centers at the end of the school year. These closures would have resulted in 772 children, most of whom are minorities needing to find alternative childcare arrangements, by the end of the school year.

Senator Parker teamed up Shamika Yearwood & New York Blood Center to encourage New Yorkers to give blood

Senator Parker partnered with New York Blood Center and college intern Shamika Yearwood to encourage Flatbush residents to donateblood at the Senator’s constituent service day event.  To incentivize would be donors, the New York Blood Center promised Ms. Yearwood a $250 scholarship towards her tuition if she could help them collect 40 pints of blood.
