Senator Zeldin Honors Eric Carver

On April 9, 1986, Eric Carver enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and completed basic military training at Lackland AFB TX and Air Force specialty training in Aircraft Avionics communications/ navigations specialist at Keesler AFB MS. From there, Carver served at Columbus AFB in Columbus MS and Loring AFB in Limestone ME until Feb 1990.

In September 1990, Carver joined the New York Air National Guard as a member of the 106th RQW (Rescue Wing). He is currently serving and holds the rank of MSgt. (Master Sgt.), and in April 2013, just completed his 27th year of combined US Air Force service between active duty service and Air National Guard service.

Erica Boynton

Erica Boynton captured the energy from the grief of a personal tragedy and harvested it into something that would help others. Tragically, in 2009, her 15 year old son Christopher was murdered by a member of a gang.

Ms. Boynton suffered the loss of her son and then dedicated her life to stopping gang violence.   She has helped spearhead several community events geared toward intervening in gang recruitment of youth. Dedicating herself to speaking with the youth members of her community, she is the first parent to ever speak before the students of the Brentwood School District about alternatives to gang involvement. Her campaign to get teens to “Speak Up” has spread from the middle schools to the high schools in both Central Islip and Brentwood.

Senator Zeldin's 2012 Veterans' Hall of Fame Recipient: Michael J. Esposito, Jr.

On the 18th of March 2004, Sergeant Michael Esposito distinguished himself in combat with anti-coalition militants while serving as a team leader with Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment (Task Force Courage). His heroism and bravery while leading his team under direct fire served as an inspiration to his peers and subordinates, and his actions contributed significantly to his success of his unit in the war on terror.

Ginny Salerno

Ginny Salerno’s life changed when she returned from a national breast cancer walk in 2002. Inspired by her experience, she decided to bring a multi-day walk to Long Island where 100 percent of the funds raised would stay on Long Island to be distributed by grassroots breast cancer service and support organizations. With sheer determination, family, friends and the support from local politicians and businesses, the inaugural LI2Day Breast Cancer Walk took place in Suff olk County in June 2004 and raised $308,000.

Senator Zeldin Honors George W. Egan

George W. Egan was born and raised in Queens Village (Queens County) New York.Mr. Egan enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1963. He completed basic training in Fort Dix, New Jersey, and advanced armor training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was assigned as M.O.S. 11E20 Armored Vehicle Crewman.He was assigned to BCA/1st BN 15th Armor 1st Cavalry Division (DMZ) Korea January 1964 – January 1965. Assigned to CO. 4th BN 68th Armor 82nd ABN Division Fort Bragg, North Carolina from January 1965 – July 1965, when his unit was deactivated. He was then assigned to Medical Co., Womack Army Hospital, also at Fort Bragg. Separated from active service on August 26, 1966 with new M.O.S. 76J 20 Medical Supply Specialist, Rank Specialist 4-E-4.

Judy Pepenella

Judy Pepenella, a genuine patriot, truly exemplifies the classic American story. As a private citizen raising a family and pursuing a career, she became increasingly worried about the future of our country and her community, and decided to take action. Her concerns led her to begin speaking out on her beliefs and organizing like-minded supporters to work for reform.
