State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R,C,I- Shirley) released the following statement today after the New York Post reported that 196 nonprofits were registered at one Brooklyn home:
“In recent weeks and months, media outlets throughout New York City and Long Island have reported one eye opening story after another about nonprofit abuse in New York State.
Central Islip, N.Y. – Recognizing that many communities within the 3rd Senate District were among the hardest hit by the recent foreclosure crisis, State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) hosted a Home Mortgage Informational Seminar this past Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at the Central Islip High School.
Representatives from the Economic Opportunity Council (E.O.C.) of Suffolk County and the Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc., were on hand to provide one-on-one counseling with the many individuals who were in attendance. Presentations were also made on various topics, including the Federal Homes Affordable Act (HAMP) modification loan procedures, short sales, deed in lieu of foreclosure, mortgage redemption, and forbearance.

Albany, NY- Responding to a story in today’s Newsday, Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley), Chairman of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee, announced he will introduce legislation to protect consumers at the gas pump.
“I am concerned that some gas stations on Long Island are getting away with charging consumers as much as $1 per gallon more for credit card than with cash. Moreover, the deceptive advertising that is happening is outrageous and has to stop,” said Senator Zeldin.

Announces Details of “Buyer Beware” Legislation to Protect Gas Station Customers
Hauppauge, NY- State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley), Chairman of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee, held a press conference today detailing his legislation designed to protect consumers at the pump.
Senator Zeldin started drafting this legislation after reports surfaced across Long Island and the NYC Metro region of gas stations charging differences of at least $1, and upwards of $2, between the cash price on the street sign and the non-disclosed credit price.
Albany, NY- Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley), Chairman of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee, announced that his gas price disclosure legislation, S.7087, passed the committee today by a 9-0 vote.
