“The recent wave of prescription drug abuse has become not only dangerous, but violent and deadly,” said State Senator Lee M. The legislation we passed in the Senate today is an important step in our efforts to curb this growing epidemic and help insure that what happened in Medford never happens again. These bills, which I was proud to co-sponsor, will place tighter controls on prescription drugs such as Hydrocodone and Tramadol; they will also create new penalties, and increase existing penalties, for those who contribute to the black market sale of these dangerous substances.
Central Islip, N.Y. – State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I-Shirley), Chairman of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee, held his second hearing to investigate circumstances surrounding Organized Retail Crime (ORC) this past Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at the Touro Law Center in Central Islip.
The focus of the hearing was to examine methods employed by the retail industry to combat ORC and to identify solutions to better address this growing criminal enterprise throughout New York State and around the Nation.

Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley), today announced that the State Senate has passed his legislation, the Counterfeit Airbag Prevention Act (S. 5037-B), to protect unsuspecting consumers from the installation of potentially fatal counterfeit airbags.
Since 2010, when U.S. customs intercepted over 300 counterfeit airbags manufactured at Guangzhou Global Auto parts, and bearing the logos of Honda, BMW, Lexus, and Audi, the US has become aware of a growing proliferation of counterfeit automobile parts.
ALBANY— Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R,C,I—Shirley) announced today that the State Senate passed the Criminal Street Gang Act (S. 4444-A) legislation which he sponsored along with Senator Martin Golden to take direct action to prevent criminal gang violence.
This legislation comes on the heels of an awareness campaign driven by community leaders in Brentwood and Central Islip, family members of gang violence victims and State and local officials who sought to unite communities affected by gang violence through prayer and peace rallies over the past weeks.

Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley), and Chairman of the Assembly Consumer Affairs and Protection Committee, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-Bronx), today announced that their legislation, the Counterfeit Airbag Prevention Act (S. 5037-B/A.6378-B), was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The law, which goes into effect in November, aims to protect unsuspecting consumers from the installation of potentially fatal counterfeit airbags.
In 2010, the State Education Department secured Race to the Top Funding from the U.S. Department of Education. In exchange for $700 Million in funding, the state education department made various commitments related to educational standards, testing, a teacher evaluation system, and data collection.
