New York State Catholic Conference Supports MTA Tax Repeal Legislation

Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I –Shirley) and Senator Jack Martins (R-Mineola) announced that the New York State Catholic Conference is supporting their MTA Payroll Tax Repeal legislation (S.5596/A.8193).

The New York State Catholic Conference released the following statement:

The above-referenced legislation makes changes to various financing provisions relating to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and in so doing, explicitly exempts public school districts, BOCES, and Special Act School Districts, as well as religious and independent schools from being subject to the MTA payroll tax.

The NYS Catholic Conference strongly supports this measure.

Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council Supports MTA Tax Repeal Legislation

Albany, NY- Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I –Shirley) and Senator Jack Martins (R-Mineola) announced that the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council is supporting their MTA Payroll Tax Repeal legislation (S.5596/A.8193).

The Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council released the following statement:

The metropolitan commuter transportation mobility tax (“MTA tax”) of a .34 percent of a payroll is a onerous burden on Long Island hospitals and health systems, costing more than $10 Million this year. The Nassau Suffolk Hospital Council strongly supports this bill, which would phase out the MTA tax for all employers on Long Island by 2014.

The New York State Senate today passed legislation (S.5596A/ A.8193A) to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax, easing an enormous financial burden that has caused job losses and hurt businesses across the downstate region. The bill, which has strong support from business organizations including the Business Council of New York State and the National Federatin of Independent Businesses, is sponsored by Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley), Senator Jack Martins (R-C-I, Mineola) and other Senators representing the 12-county MTA region.

Senator Lee M. Zeldin and The National Federation of Independent Businesses Call on The State Assembly to Pass MTA Payroll Tax Repeal

Albany, NY- Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley), Assemblyman Dean Murray (R, C- East Patchogue) and the National Federation of Independent Businesses today continued to keep the pressure on Assembly Majority Speaker Silver in calling for an up or down vote on legislation to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax before the end of session.
