Zeldin Posthumously Awards New York State Senate Liberty Medal To Infantryman John P. Jennings

Hauppauge, NY- State Senator Lee Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) announced today that he has presented the New York State Senate Liberty Medal to the family of Iraq War Veteran John P. Jennings of Suffolk County.

“John was a man who sacrificed so much of himself in Iraq, experienced the loss of many of his comrades in arms, and suffered injuries that haunted him until the end. He was fiercely loyal and patriotic to his core,” said Senator Zeldin.  “I am presenting this medal as a tribute to his service to his country and the great credit his service has brought upon the State of New York.”

Senator Lee M. Zeldin Meets With New York State’s VFW Legislative Committee

Albany, NY- State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) recently met with members of the New York State VFW Legislative Committee in Albany.  Senator Zeldin, a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves, had the opportunity to discuss issues of top importance to our veterans community.  Zeldin, a Senior Vice-Commander of his VFW Post, is currently a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security, and Military Affairs.

Bonds sought for protests at funerals

Local lawmakers called for state legislation Saturday to bar protesters from military funerals unless they posted a bond to cover extra security costs.

The proposal came in the wake of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling this month that upheld a Kansas church's right to demonstrate outside soldiers' funerals.
