On April 21, 2013, Senator Lee Zeldin had the honor of speaking at the opening ceremony of the 7th Jigsaw Run/Walk for Autism that supports children diagnosed with autism on Long Island. The event, which kicked off at the East Islip Marina, was dedicated to the victims and families of Boston in the aftermath of the recent tragedy at the Boston Marathon.
Advocating for children, women and all law abiding citizens, Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley) today announced that the State Senate has passed legislation (S.3805) he sponsored to increase the penalties for public lewdness.
The bill creates the new crimes of Public Lewdness in the first degree, second degree and third degree and increases the penalties for anyone who repeatedly commits lewd acts in public or who targets children.

Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley) today joined fellow elected officials and community leaders to announce the introduction of legislation to certify, assist, improve and monitor sober living homes operating in Suffolk County.
The bill is one of the core priorities of the Tri-Hamlet Renaissance Project, led by Senator Zeldin. Addressing the Sober Home issue through the creation of statewide legislation is the result of this collaborative bi-partisan, multi-governmental effort.

Final Agreement Includes Important Initiatives For 3rd Senate District
Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley) today announced that several key initiatives for which he fought to provide tax relief and protect vital programs and services have been included in the 2013-14 New York State Budget.
“This is the third year in a row that the state budget has been passed on time, and this year’s budget reflects the earliest date a state budget has been passed in more than 30 years,” said Senator Zeldin. “Considering the state’s history of late budgets, this is an important new standard.
State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley) today announced that the Senate has passed the portion of the State Budget that permanently eliminates the Saltwater Fishing License Fee.
“The elimination of the Saltwater Fishing License Fee was one of many important priorities for me since taking office in 2011,” said Senator Zeldin. “The three year moratorium we secured in the 2011-2012 budget was a big victory for all Long Islanders, but there is no better to build on that success than to permanently eliminate the fee in this year's budget. I am very grateful that Governor Cuomo included the elimination of this fee in his 30 Day Executive Budget Amendment.”

The gathering of more than 300 mental health experts, advocates and family members, also included dozens of veterans from Suffolk and Nassau Counties.
