Senator Zeldin Honors Eric Carver

On April 9, 1986, Eric Carver enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and completed basic military training at Lackland AFB TX and Air Force specialty training in Aircraft Avionics communications/ navigations specialist at Keesler AFB MS. From there, Carver served at Columbus AFB in Columbus MS and Loring AFB in Limestone ME until Feb 1990.

In September 1990, Carver joined the New York Air National Guard as a member of the 106th RQW (Rescue Wing). He is currently serving and holds the rank of MSgt. (Master Sgt.), and in April 2013, just completed his 27th year of combined US Air Force service between active duty service and Air National Guard service.

Senators Lee Zeldin and Phil Boyle Honor B’nai Israel’s Rabbi Steven Moss

Senators Lee Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) and Phil Boyle (R, C, I- Islip) presented a New York Senate Resolution commemorating Rabbi Steven Moss's 40th Anniversary with B'nai Israel Reform Temple in Oakdale. The presentation took place at the Suffolk County Police Memorial Service in Yaphank on Friday, May 17th. Rabbi Moss (center) is in his Suffolk County Police Uniform, where he serves as Chief of Chaplains.

Erica Boynton

Erica Boynton captured the energy from the grief of a personal tragedy and harvested it into something that would help others. Tragically, in 2009, her 15 year old son Christopher was murdered by a member of a gang.

Ms. Boynton suffered the loss of her son and then dedicated her life to stopping gang violence.   She has helped spearhead several community events geared toward intervening in gang recruitment of youth. Dedicating herself to speaking with the youth members of her community, she is the first parent to ever speak before the students of the Brentwood School District about alternatives to gang involvement. Her campaign to get teens to “Speak Up” has spread from the middle schools to the high schools in both Central Islip and Brentwood.

Senator Zeldin Honors Erica Boynton of Brentwood as the 3rd Senate District’s 2013 New York State Senate “Woman of Distinction”

At an award ceremony held in Albany on May 7, 2013, Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) honored Erica Boynton of Brentwood as the 3rd Senate District’s 2013 New York State Senate “Woman of Distinction.” Erica was honored for her outstanding work in the prevention of gang violence in Suffolk County. She is also a founder of the Brentwood Association of Concerned Citizens and a leader of the successful anti-graffiti and neighborhood clean-up campaign in Brentwood. The Senate’s Women of Distinction program honors the exceptional achievement, personal excellence and outstanding, courageous and heroic actions on the part of individual women from across the State. Senator Zeldin Presents Resolution to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Pine Park Elementary

On May 3, 2013, Senator Lee Zeldin presented a Senate Resolution to the Pine Park Elementary School in Brentwood to help commemorate the school’s 50th anniversary. Mastic Beach, NY- State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) today released the First Year Progress Report of the Tri-Hamlet Renaissance Project.

The Project was announced on April, 29, 2012, with a 33 page collaborative report detailing proposed projects that community leaders, including local elected officials from every layer of government, have agreed to work together towards achieving.

Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley) today joined Senators David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester), Chairman of the Senate Mental Health Committee and Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee as well as Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino and Putman County Executive Mary Odell to announce funding for the expansion of the PFC Joseph Dwyer PTSD Peer-to-Peer Veterans Counseling program to Westchester, Rockland and Putman Counties. The continuation and expansion of the PFC Joseph Dwyer PTSD Peer-to-Peer Veterans Counseling program was approved as part of the 2013-14 state budget.

Senator Zeldin Opens East Islip Autism Walk/Run

On April 21, 2013, Senator Lee Zeldin had the honor of speaking at the opening ceremony of the 7th Jigsaw Run/Walk for Autism that supports children diagnosed with autism on Long Island. Pictured with Senator Zeldin is Bea Huste Petersen, founder and Executive Director of the EJ Autism Foundation. The event, which kicked off at the East Islip Marina, was dedicated to the victims and families of Boston in the aftermath of the recent tragedy at the Boston Marathon.
