Senator Zeldin (above center) is pictured here with his team of 25 walkers from the local community who were able to raise over $3,000 for this worthy cause.

Senator Lee Zeldin Holds Second Meeting of The Blue Ribbon “John P. Jennings Veterans’ Advisory Panel”

Central Islip, N.Y. – State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) held the second meeting of the Blue Ribbon “John P. Jennings Veterans’ Advisory Panel” this past Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at the Touro Law Center in Central Islip.

The panel was named in honor of Infantryman John P. Jennings, a Suffolk County resident who passed away on January 10, 2011. John’s long struggle with the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) followed a deployment to Iraq from September 2004 to October 2005. This past February, Zeldin presented Jennings’ family with the New York State Liberty Medal, the highest award given by the New York State Senate for citizenry.

Senator Zeldin Delivers on Military Dignity Act Promise

Governor Cuomo Signs Bills To Limit Protests at Military Funerals

Ronkonkoma, NY- State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R-C-I Shirley) announced today that Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed into law Senator Zeldin’s bill to limit protests at military funerals.

In keeping with his 2010 campaign promises, Senator Zeldin sponsored and delivered passage of a series of bills, one of them named after Specialist Thomas J. Wilwerth, an Iraq War Veteran who lost his life in combat in 2006.

The bills, sponsored by Senators Lee Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley) and Joseph Griffo (R-C, Rome), balance the constitutional right of free speech with the need to protect families mourning the loss of their fallen servicemember.

Central Islip, N.Y. – State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley), State Senator Roy J. McDonald (R- Saratoga), Chairman of the State Senate Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Committee, and State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle (R, C, I- Port Jefferson) hosted an Autism and similar type developmental disabilities forum this past Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at the Touro Law Center in Central Islip. Senator Zeldin, and his colleagues Senator McDonald and Senator LaValle, talked with and listened to experts, educators, service providers, individuals and their families on issues relating to autism and developmental disabilities.

Statement from Senator Lee M. Zeldin RE: LIPA

This week's recovery from Hurricane Irene has been extra difficult for those who remain without power. Over the past several days, during my travels throughout the Third Senate District, I have seen hundreds of trees down, power lines damaged, and significant flooding, the latter of which fortunately receeded quickly. At my district office, we have continuously fielded calls and emails from constituents without power, and those with friends and relatives without power. I have been pleased with LIPA's responsiveness to my requests for individual assistance, most importantly, to those residents with disabilities or otherwise requiring immediate relief.

Senator Lee M. Zeldin, Assemblyman Dean Murray and Assemblyman Al Graf Announce Governor Cuomo’s Signature on Grace Peshkur Bridge Legislation

Suffolk County, NY- Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley), Assemblyman Dean Murray (R, C- East Patchogue) and Assemblyman Al Graf (R, C–Holbrook) announced today that Governor Cuomo has signed their bill in to law naming the Waverly Avenue Bridge over the Long Island Expressway in Holtsville in honor of Grace Peshkur.

Grace Peshkur of Holtsville passed away on May 17, 2009, at the age of seven. She suffered from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), also known as Butterfly Disease, a connective tissue condition causing blisters in the skin and mucosal membranes. EB sufferers resemble burn victims but their wounds never heal.

Refund to Include Fees Paid by Charter Boats

Freeport, NY - State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R,C,I- Shirley) joined Governor Andrew Cuomo today to announce a refund of the Recreational Saltwater Fishing License Fee paid by individuals and charter boats for the 2010-2011season. The event was held at the Freeport Boatman’s Association, in Freeport, Long Island.

Senator Zeldin led the fight to secure a two year moratorium on the Saltwater Fishing License Fee for 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons in this year’s State Budget enacted this past April. Individual anglers and charters who had already purchased a license prior to the moratorium will be receiving their money back.

Zeldin: Cuomo’s Probe of Non-Profit Executive Compensation Is Timely and Necessary

State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R,C,I- Shirley) today applauded the decision by Governor Andrew Cuomo to launch a probe of non-profit executive compensation in light of recent news stories of widespread abuse.

“Governor Cuomo’s probe of non-profit executive compensation is timely and necessary,” said Senator Zeldin. “It is almost daily now that we read in the papers new accounts of widespread abuse by non-profit executives.”

Senator Zeldin, who released a statement this past Monday calling for legislative action on this issue in 2012, was very pleased to learn of the Governor’s probe.
