Senator Zeldin Protects Children from Identity Theft

ALBANY—Senator Lee Zeldin (R, C, I—Shirley), Chair of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee, announced today that his bill aimed at protecting minor children from identity theft passed in the Senate.

The bill, S. 6682-B, will create a mechanism whereby parents or guardians can place a freeze on the credit record of a minor child in order to prevent their child from becoming a victim of identity theft.

PATCHOGUE—On Friday, June 13th, 2014, Senator Lee Zeldin (R,C,I—Shirley) was the Guest Speaker at the Annual Flag Day Ceremony hosted by Patchogue Elks Lodge 1323. The ceremony included the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful and God Bless America, and featured remarks on the history and importance of our nation's flag.

Senator Lee Zeldin Attends 3rd Annual Tri-Hamlet Community Day

Senator Lee Zeldin (R,C,I—Shirley) attended the 3rd Annual Tri-Hamlet Community Day, on  Saturday May 31st. The celebration was held to promote the hidden treasures of the community, including the Manor of St. George, site of American victory in Revolutionary War, and William Floyd Estate, home of a Signer of the Declaration of Independence. The other included sites were the grave of Revolutionary War General and Hero Nathaniel Woodhull, Wertheim Wildlife Refuge, and the TWA800 Memorial.

Senator Lee Zeldin Lowers Hunting and Fishing Fees for Long Island Seniors

ALBANY—Senator Lee Zeldin (R,C,I—Shirley) announced that his bill to lower the age limits in which seniors are entitled to receive a reduction in fees for various hunting, fishing and trapping licenses passed in the Senate today.

The bill, S. 5133, changes the senior citizen age accepted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation from seventy to sixty-five.

Giving our Veterans the Peer Support They Need and Deserve: A Column by Senator Lee Zeldin

After the last mile of the parades have been walked and the barbeque flames have been extinguished—the flame of devotion to our veterans must be further extended. In honoring our veterans, those who have sacrificed the entirety of their lives to protect our own, it is critical that we carry the spirit of this past weekend with us far beyond a short holiday.

Memorial Day is about celebrating and remembering those who have lost their lives in service to our great nation. Words will never be enough to say thank you.

Yet, what better way to honor those we have lost than to ensure that their brothers and sisters in arms are treated with the highest caliber of respect and are afforded the very best care upon their return?

Senator Lee Zeldin Honors VFW State Commander Michael Pascal

ALBANY—On March 20, 2014, Senator Lee Zeldin (R, C, I—Shirley) inducted a local hero into the NYS Senate's Veterans Hall of Fame: VFW State Commander Michael Pascal.

A resident of Suffolk County for the past 41 years, Commander Pascal served the U.S. Army from 1966 thru 1969. He honorably served in the Vietnam War and his passion for serving his fellow veterans has stayed with him far beyond his years of service in uniform.

“Please take a minute to join me in thanking those, like Commander Pascal, who have sacrificed their lives-on and off the battlefield-in defense of our nation, our Constitution, and our freedoms,” said Senator Zeldin. “Thank you to all of our servicemen and women for your selfless commitment.”

ALBANY—At a ceremony in Albany on Tuesday, May 13, Senator Lee Zeldin (R,C,I—Shirley) presented the Honorable A. Gail Prudenti with the NYS Senate’s annual Woman of Distinction Award.

 In her role as the Chief Administrative Judge of the Courts of New York State, Judge Prudenti manages the administration and operation of our state’s Unified Court System, making her responsible for a budget of over $2 billion, 3,600 state and local judges and 15,000 non-judicial employees in over 350 court locations around the state.

Senator Lee Zeldin Announces Budget Win for PFC Joseph Dwyer Program for Veterans

Senator Lee Zeldin (R,C,I—Shirley) was joined by local leaders and veterans on Thursday, April 3, 2014, to announce the continuation and expansion of one of his most significant legislative achievements to date: the PFC Joseph Dwyer PTSD Peer-to-Peer Veterans Support program.

The unique program, which provides our heroes with support and guidance to combat the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), has served 450 Suffolk County veterans since its inception. Given its success, the 2014-2015 state budget has expanded the program to include 12 counties across the state.
