New York State Conservative Party Endorses MTA Tax Repeal Legislation

Albany, NY- Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I –Shirley) announced that the New York State Conservative Party has endorsed his MTA Payroll Tax Repeal legislation (S.5596/A.8193).

Patchogue, NY- State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) (Above, Center) held his first meeting of the Blue Ribbon “John P. Jennings Veterans’ Advisory Panel” today at St. Josephs College in Patchogue.

Press Conference: Senator Lee M. Zeldin and Senator Jack Martins To Hold Press Conference Announcing Introduction of Legislation To Repeal The MTA Payroll Tax

Hauppauge, NY- Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) will announce the introduction of legislation to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax. This announcement comes on the heels of months of studying, listening and learning about the MTA and their financial situation.

Senator Zeldin will be making this announcement on the steps of the State Office Building in Hauppauge. Joining Senator Zeldin will be Co-prime sponsor Senator Jack Martins (R-Mineola). This legislation will be introduced in the Assembly by Assemblyman George Latimer (D-Westchester).

The MTA Payroll Tax is a job killing tax that, in 2009, was placed on every business, school, local government, nonprofit and hospital in Suffolk County and throughout the 12 county MTA region.

Great River, NY – State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I – Shirley) attended the Great River 2011 Memorial Day Parade this weekend in honor of the many brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who have given their lives in service to our Country.

Senator Lee M. Zeldin Kicks off “Cell Phones for Soldiers” Drive

Hauppauge, NY- State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) announced today that he is kicking off a drive to collect cell phones for soldiers. Zeldin (Above, Center), a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves, said that his office in the State Office Building in Hauppauge (250 Veteran's Memorial Hwy. Hauppauge, NY), will serve as a collection site for the Cell Phones for Soldiers project.

Cell Phones for Soldiers was founded by teenagers, Robbie and Brittany Bergquist, from Norwell, Mass., with $21 of their own money. Since then, the registered 501c3 non-profit organization has raised almost $2 million in donations and distributed more than 500,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas.

Senator Lee M. Zeldin Honors Judy Pepenella, 2011 Woman of Distinction

Last night, State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley), honored Judy Pepenella of Patchogue as a 2011 New York State Senate “Woman of Distinction.”

Judy Pepenella is a single mom who is raising two teenage children and is an advertising account representative for a small business on Long Island. Ms. Pepenella has devoted the last two and a half years of her life fighting for her country as a member of a local grassroots activist organization. Her activism has led her to become involved in local, state and federal politics over the last three years.

Senator Lee Zeldin and Long Island State Senators Press Assembly Majority to Pass the Property Tax Cap

Bayport, NY – State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I-Shirley), along with 7 other Long Island Republican State Senators, recently held a news conference to pressure the State Assembly Democratic Majority into acting on property tax cap legislation that passed the Senate earlier this year. The Long Island Senators were joined by Bayport residents, Richard and Joanne Curley, whose property taxes have increased 16.2% to $11,033 in the past three years.

More than 18,000 taxpayers have signed the Senate Republicans’ PassTheTaxCap.Com petition urging the Assembly to join the Senate and pass the Governor’s property tax cap bill.

Zeldin (R, C, I-Shirley) presented a poster commemorating the introduction of the Purple Heart stamp as a Forever stamp to Commander Leo Belanger of VFW Post 8651 of the Mastics and Shirley.  Senator Zeldin (Above, Left), a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves, is also the Senior Vice-Commander of Post 8651. LONG ISLAND SENATORS PRESS ASSEMBLY TO PASS PROPERTY TAX CAP

18,000 Taxpayers Sign Senate GOP Tax Cap Petition

Long Island’s Republican State Senators held a news conference today to pressure the State Assembly into acting on property tax cap legislation that passed the Senate earlier this year. More than 18,000 taxpayers have signed Senate Republicans’ PassTheTaxCap.Com petition urging the Assembly to join the Senate and pass the Governor’s property tax cap bill.

“Passing the Governor’s hard property tax cap bill was one of the first things the Senate did this year and, unfortunately, the bill has languished in the Assembly,” Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos said.
