    (Albany, New York)—The New York State Senate passed an ethics reform bill today, finally fulfilling a promise long made to New Yorkers. State Senator Liz Krueger expressed her hope that this would be the first step in the adoption of a series of necessary reforms to address the serious issues of questionable ethics and the influence of money that Albany faces.

  • Haiti Needs Our Help

    Hello Friends,

    We've all been following the heartbreaking news coming out of Haiti since yesterday's tragic earthquake.

    I am glad to see that our national government is moving in with assistance, but as New Yorker's many of us have personal relationships with Haiti and with the large Haitian American community in our own great and diverse City.

    For me, this tragedy reinforces how precious and fragile our lives and safety can be!

    Nature has taken its course and overnight, an entire country is thrown into turmoil.

  • June 1 start to N.Y. fiscal year urged

    There is a push from some lawmakers to change the state's fiscal year from April 1 to June 1.

    Liz Krueger, D-Manhattan, chairperson of the Senate Select Committee on Budget and Tax Reform, says the change would make a big difference. Having a fiscal year that begins before the April 15 filing deadline for income-tax returns means the governor and lawmakers put together the budget without the most complete information on state revenues, she said.
