Testimony Before the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Regarding the Proposed Fare Hike on November 15, 2007

My name is Liz Krueger and I am the State Senator representing New York’s 26th Senate District, which covers the East Side of Manhattan and Midtown.  I urge the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to delay the proposed fare hike on subway and bus fares until April 2008.  Doing so will allow the MTA to pursue additional aide from the 2008-2009 State Budget and the possibility of tapping new revenue streams based on the actions of the New York State Traffic Mitigation Commission.

Testimony Before the New York City Rent Guidelines Board Regarding Proposed Rent Increases on June 12, 2007

My name is Liz Krueger and I represent the 26th Senate District, which includes the Upper East Side, East Midtown and Midtown areas of Manhattan.  I want to thank you for providing me with this opportunity to testify on the range of proposed rent increases for rent stabilized tenants- anywhere from 2 to 4.5% for one-year leases and 4 to 7.5% for two year leases.  Even if the rent increases ultimately approved are at the low end of the proposed ranges, I have many serious concerns about what this decision would mean for the more than one million low, moderate and middle-income rent stabilized residents of New York City who are already facing a crisis of affordability and tremendous cost of living increases.

Testimony Before The New York City Board Of Elections Regarding The Selection Of Voting Machines For New York City Elections On November 21, 2006

Good evening, I am State Senator Liz Krueger, representing the 26th Senate District in Manhattan.  I am here today to urge the New York City Board of Elections to select a Precinct Based Optical Scanning (PBOS) voting system for conducting future elections in the City.  Fair elections are the centerpiece of our democracy, and in order to protect that democracy we must adopt the voting system that is the most reliable, verifiable, and easy for the voter and poll worker to understand.  As a paper ballot based system, PBOS meets these standards, and is clearly preferable to computerized Direct Recording Electronic (DRE) systems, which require voters to trust the software, make verification difficult even with a voter-verified pape
