Message from Liz . . .
We are a less than a week away from the 10 year anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001, and just over a week past Hurricane Irene. Each had a very different and complex cause; both left us with the immediate need to rebuild our communities. Both also highlight the importance of interdependence as a fundamental strength of our democratic society. In other words, none of us “do it all by ourselves;” we survive through our inter-relationships and our dependence on institutions. When the basic safety and infrastructure of local communities is damaged, we must rely on others to help us rebuild. It really does “take a village.”
(New York, NY) – Today Senator Liz Krueger hosted her Fifth Annual Senior Resource Fair. At this free event seniors have the chance to talk to representatives from a variety of government and non-profit agencies that specialize in everything from healthcare to care-giver support to housing to healthy aging to volunteer opportunities to cultural affairs. Joining Senator Krueger and residents from the community were Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and Assembly Member Micah Kellner.
Join us for Part V of our Five-Part Series for Boomers and Seniors, "Who Will Care for Me? Redefining Aging and How We Care for our Elders." Presenters will include: Alice Fisher, Community Outreach Director for the Office of State Senator Liz Krueger; and Frederic Riccardi, Director of Programs and Outreach for the Medicare Rights Center. A light breakfast will be served.

Governor Cuomo has proposed a comprehensive Women’s Equality Act, bringing together a number of key measures that have failed to move in Albany in the past, including protecting women's reproductive choice, achieving pay equity, stopping sexual harassment, and ending family status, source-of-income, and pregnancy discrimination.
This is a comprehensive and compelling agenda, but it needs your support. Anti-choice advocates have mobilized in opposition to the reproductive health provisions of the governor’s proposal, and many other aspects of the proposal have long been obstructed by the business lobby.
Please sign up to support the Women's Equality Act agenda.Your support is vital to passing this long-overdue legislation and advancing the cause of equality in New York State.
