Environmental Super Bills Have the Support of a Majority of Senators

New York—Citing support from a majority of the members of the State Senate for the environmental Super Bills, State Senator Liz Krueger today urged Republican Majority Leader Joe Bruno to stop blocking these bills from debate, and allow a full vote on the floor of the Senate. The Majority Leader has unilateral control over what legislation comes to the floor, and has allowed these environmental bills to languish in the Environmental Conservation committee -- most for numerous legislative sessions.

New York—In an on-going effort to protect Mitchell-Lama and Project-Based Section 8 affordable housing units, State Senator Liz Krueger today unveiled a bill (S5948) to give existing tenants a "right-of-first-refusal" should the owner of their development choose to leave these affordable housing programs, and sell the building at market-rate.

STATEMENT BY STATE SENATOR LIZ KRUEGER ON SUPREME COURT DECISION UPHOLDING FEDERAL ABORTION BAN

I am deeply disturbed that today, the United States Supreme Court ruled to uphold a right-wing piece of legislation that bans a type of rarely performed, late-term, medically necessary abortion known in the medical profession as "intact dilatation and extraction or intact D and X." Women who face this medical decision do so with a great deal of emotional and physical distress, and do so under direct medical supervision of their respected doctor.
