Today, Senate Majority Leader Malcolm A. Smith, joined by members of the Majority Conference announced their plan to address the Metropolitan Transportation Authoritys (MTA) operating deficit, saving millions of straphangers from crippling fare increases and service cuts.
(Albany, NY)- Today, Senate President Malcolm A. Smith announced the nomination of Senator Craig M. Johnson (D-Nassau) to serve on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Capital Program Review Board. The nomination was made this past weekend, notice was given to the MTA and the appointment is pending the filing of the appropriate paperwork with the Governor’s office.

Smith and Senator Martin Malavé Dilan, Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee are traveling to Washington D.C. today to speak with federal officials about bringing High Speed Rail to New York. Senators Smith and Dilan are scheduled to meet with Senator Charles Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, Carl Tubbesing, Deputy Director, National Conference of State Legislatures and Dana Gresham, Assistant DOT Secretary for Governmental Affairs.
