(St. Albans, NY)- New York State Senator Malcolm A. Smith (D-St. Albans) will once again launch the annual youth employment initiative, the Youth Business Network, formerly known as Biz Kidz. The innovative six-week employment program places fifteen local students at various businesses located throughout Queens.   “I realized that there was a great need for programs that not only give our young people working experience but also give them an opportunity to learn and exhibit skills that would allow them to become tomorrow’s leaders,” said Senator Smith.  “We as a community need to encourage our children to become the professionals of the future.”  The program employs students between the ages of 14 and 19.

The day will be recognized as Marriage for All Day.  Over $300 Million worth of revenue will be pumped into the economy due to the influx of couples from across the nation that will come to New York City and Long Island to get married.  “History has been made in the State of New York. The Empire State has shown the world that we are ready for equality and that we really are One New York,” said Senator Smith.

Sharon Sweeting-Lindsey

Major Sharon Sweeting-Lindsey retired from the United States Army Reserve, after having served 26 years.  During her tenure in the military, she was stationed  at Fort Totten and  Fort Hamilton, where her military occupation skill was that of a Food Service Specialist and Food Service Officer. Major Sweeting-Lindsey is a Magnum Cum Laude graduate from Brooklyn College, where she obtained a Bachelors of Arts Degree, a Masters of Education Degree and an Advance Certificate Degree in Supervision and Administration.  She also possesses numerous licensures as a NYC Certified Food Service instructor, Principal and School District Administrator.
