David R. Hooks, Jr., began his military career in the United States Marine Corp on August 28, 1965. As customary with all enlistees, he began his career as a private. He first served with the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division in Camp LeJune, North Carolina. While with the 2nd Battalion he was stationed in Cuba for six months. In 1966, he transferred to the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. During his time with the 3rd Battalion, from 1966-1967, he valiantly fought in the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the United States, he again was transferred to the 3rd Naval District Brig and stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York. Mr.
