Creative Celebration

Dear Participant,

Thank you for your wonderful contribution to the Thanksgiving Day Creative Celebration. In our first year, we received outstanding poems, essays, and artwork that exemplify the creativity of New York State’s young people.

The submissions received are remarkable in what they represent – showing gratitude and respect for family, friends, our troops fighting overseas, and many other important subjects and activities. I am humbled and honored to see such inspiring contributions in response to what is a deceptively difficult question: “What are you thankful for?”

On behalf of the New York State Senate, I would like to offer my wholehearted congratulations to all of the participants in this year’s Thanksgiving Day Creative Celebration.

SENATOR SMITH TOY DRIVE 2011

SENATOR MALCOLM A. SMITH PHOTO OF THE WEEK Senator Malcolm A. Smith (D-Hollis) kicked-off his annual Winter Wonderland Toy Drive. Thanks to corporations such as Health First, Jet Blue and Neighborhood Health Providers, Smith was able to distribute more than 350 toys to children in need in local daycare centers, hospitals and shelters such as Peninsula Hospital in Far Rockaway and the Charles R. Drew Daycare Center in Hollis.

Senator Smith Urges all New Yorkers to Pay Homage to Our Servicemen and Women This Veterans Day

(Queens, NY)- In recognition of Veterans Day, Senator Malcolm A. Smith (D-St. Albans) is encouraging all Americans to extend a hand to our brave servicemen and women for their heroic service. “Members of our Armed Forces have made brave sacrifices in the name of our nation’s freedom and for that they should be recognized not only today, but 365 days of the year,” Senator Smith said.
