“As a nation, we have the moral responsibility to care for the brave 9/11 rescue workers who so tirelessly participated in the rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero and as a result have suffered illness or injury. “I am pleased that Congress was able to work together to pass this vital legislation to provide much needed funding for medical treatment for these brave men and women. “I applaud Presided Obama and our Senators, Chuck Schumer and Kristin Gillibrand, and Representatives Carolyn Maloney and Jerrold Nadler, for their commitment to the passage of this critical bill."
Senate President Malcolm A. Smith joined senior citizens from the Jamaica Service Program For Older Adults (JSPOA) to urge the NYC Department of Mental Health & Hygiene not to eliminate funding to seniors who are mentally and physically ill.
Senate President Malcolm A. Smith distributed more then 200 turkeys during his annual turkey distribution drive. Turkeys were donated by Arverne By The Sea, Farmbria, Food Town, Food World Supermarket, Fresh Direct, Royal Waste Services and Western Beef.
“ Parks are an economic engine and promote tourism throughout the state. 55 Million people visit our state’s parks every year resulting in 1.9 billion in revenue. With the unemployment rate at an all-time high New Yorkers can take relief in knowing that over 20,000 jobs will now be created. With Memorial Day approaching I am certain that the residents of my district as well as New Yorkers throughout the state are eager to utilize our state’s great Parks. ”
Senate President Malcolm A. Smith was joined by his colleagues on the State, Federal and City levels to announce the reformation of a Tri-Level Joint Legislative Task Force on Jobs. Members of the three layers of government came together in a coordinated effort to help create jobs in the 21st Century. The hearings will be hosted by borough presidents throughout the city to examine what can be done to put New Yorkers back to work.
