New York State Senator Mark Grisanti (60th District) is pushing to repeal the “last in, first out” (LIFO) policy by joining with administrators and board of education members from the “Big Four” school districts of New York (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers) in their request for new systems for teacher evaluation to be put into place.

"The Buffalo News" Editorial Board: For UB, once again

Fifty-five state senators, Republicans and Democrats, stood in solidarity for the University at Buffalo last week, passing a new bill supporting the UB 2020 strategic plan. It's a new momentum for the bill that could bolster all of Western New York. It must not be lost.The bill was sponsored by freshman Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-Buffalo, and supported by Majority Leader Dean Skelos. It now demands support in the Assembly, especially as it takes out the key opposition argument of affordability in allowing the university to raise its own tuition.

“The Buffalo News”- Another Voice-”Real reform is the answer to education dilemma” By Mark Grisanti

Acommentary by Billy Easton of the Alliance for Quality Education that was recently published in The Buffalo News regarding the proposed cuts to education funding in New York State missed the mark. Taxes — throwing money at the issue — doesn’t work. You cannot spend yourself into prosperity; it has never happened.

I support a well-measured restoration of funding for education. We are at a point in time where there has to be careful planning and consideration given to each and every problem relating to our students. We need to re-evaluate our current course and establish revisions that will both maximize benefits to students as well as minimize wasteful spending.

Buffalo area Senator Mark Grisanti sat down with Liz Benjamin to talk about the future of UB2020, and respond to criticism from Democrats that he didn’t fight hard enough to get the plan into the budget.

Summit on UB2020 scheduled

ALBANY - A summit Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo proposed to consider a stalled effort by the University at Buffalo for its UB2020 plan will be held during the first week of May at the state Capitol.

Sen. Mark Grisanti said the governor called him this morning, asking him to gather names of people from Western New York -- including university and union officials -- to attend the gathering. The panel also will include including Assemblywoman Deborah Glick, a Manhattan Democrat who has opposed the UB2020 plan.

Officials from SUNY at Stony Brook, which is interested in piggybacking onto the UB plan, may also be on the panel, said Grisanti, a Buffalo Republican.

"It's a positive sign," Grisanti said.

Gov. Cuomo and SUNY Chancellor Zimpher Unveil Groundbreaking "NYSUNY 2020" Program

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor Dr. Nancy L. Zimpher today unveiled the NYSUNY 2020 Challenge Grant Program. Phase one of the program is worth up to $140 million dollars to the SUNY University Centers in Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo and Stony Brook.

The NYSUNY 2020 Challenge Grant Program will initially consist of $35 million in capital funding per school ($20 million administered by Empire State Development Corporation and $15 million from SUNY's construction fund) for the four SUNY University Centers.
