Bill Mirrors Proposal in Executive Budget

The New York State Senate today passed a bill (S.2682), sponsored by Senator Mike Ranzenhofer (R-C-I, Amherst), to repeal a burdensome tax on local economic development agencies that hinders job growth and economic investment. The tax, first enacted in 2009, provides a direct obstacle to the ability of Industrial Development Agencies and Authorities (IDAs) to invest in new projects, support local businesses and create jobs.

"One of my campaign promises was to create jobs and cut  taxes,"  said Senator Grisanti. "By repealing this burdensome tax from 2009, we are promoting job growth in Western New York and across the state," said Grisanti.

Senate Passes Historic Property Tax Cap Legislation

The New York State Senate today passed historic property tax relief legislation that enacts a cap on the growth of local property taxes.

The bill (S.5856), sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos, will cap school and local government taxes to less than two percent or the Consumer Price Index (CPI), whichever is lower. Mandate relief is also included, with $127 million in savings to local governments, in addition to the creation of a Mandate Relief Council to identify and repeal unsound, unduly burdensome laws and regulations.

Grisanti Backs Cuomo Tax Cutting Agenda: “Now is the time to make additional cuts on state spending to provide even greater tax savings.”

(ALBANY, NY) - New York State Senator Mark Grisanti today announced his endorsement of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan to overhaul state income tax rates and give average middle class households much-needed tax relief.

“I commend the Governor and Senate leadership for this groundbreaking initiative,” Grisanti said. “I stand proudly with The Business Council of New York State and the National Federation of Independent Business in support of this measure.”

“My constituents need this significant tax relief today, right now, ASAP - and they don’t have time for partisan bickering,” Grisanti said.

BUFFALO NEWS EDITORIAL: Two changes needed in historic tax credit program

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo delivered good news for the long-term prospects of rehabilitating commercial properties with his proposal to extend the state’s tax credits for renovating those buildings.

The tax credit program, which was due to expire next year, has been a key factor in Buffalo’s revitalization. One example is developer Rocco Termini’s spectacular makeover of the Hotel @ the Lafayette downtown.

STAR Re-registration Event in Town of Tonawanda

In 2013, New York State initiated a program that all recipients of The Basic STAR Property Tax exemption (Property owners UNDER AGE 65, or those over age 65 whose incomes exceeded $81,900) would have to re-register in order to receive the Basic STAR exemption. This was part of an iniative to protect New Yorkers against fraudulent or inappropriate STAR Exemptions.

Senator Grisanti Sends Request to Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos in support of the “Education Investment Tax Credit”
