National Memory Screening Day for Alzheimer's Awareness Month

Approximately 5.1 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease; in New York alone, it is estimated that more than 320,000 aged 65 and older are currently affected.  On November 16th is National Memory Screening Day and free screenings will be offered at Lutheran Family Health Centers, Services for Older Adults at 9000 Shore Rd from 10 am to 2 pm. National Commemorative Candle Lighting for Alzheimers Awareness Month

MTA Rally and Court Date

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) will host a rally and protest against the Metropolitan Transit Authority bus service reductions on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, starting at 5:30 p.m., at the corner of Bay Ridge Avenue and 3rd Avenue.

 

Senator Golden is organizing the rally in advance of the October 21st State Supreme Court hearing where arguments of the lawsuit filed against the Metropolitan Transit Authority will be presented to Judge Kenneth Sherman by expert counsel hired by Senator Golden

Closed for ING NYC Marathon Sun., Nov. 7th 7 AM to 3 PM;

Upper Level closures begin Sat., Nov. 6 at 11 PM

The ING NYC Marathon will be held on Sunday, Nov. 7th. Motorists traveling to Brooklyn or Staten Island via the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge should seek alternate routes.

Motorists can hear information about closures at the Verrazano-Narrows by calling the Marathon Traffic Info Hotline at: 718-556-8010.

Brooklyn - State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is announcing that he has joined with Coney Island Hospital to sponsor a community blood drive on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A mobile van will be outside Senator Golden’s District Office located at 7408-5th Avenue in Brooklyn and an appointment is necessary and can be made by calling Senator Golden’s office at (718) 238-6044. There are 32 appointments available for that day.
