SENATOR GOLDEN CALLS ON MTA TO PURCHASE NEW BUSES FOR BROOKLYN EXPRESS BUS ROUTES

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a member of the Metropolitan Transit Authority Captial Review Board, today is calling upon the Metropolitan Transit Authority and New York City Transit Authority to purchase new express buses to service the X27/X28 and X37/X38 routes in Brooklyn. 

Senator Golden is responding to the announcement that more than $113 million dollars has been awarded the United States Department of Transportation to the MTA for purposes of purchasing new buses. Senator Golden often receives complaints from the residents of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bath Beach and Bensonhurst regarding the conditions of the buses on these routes.

SENATOR GOLDEN AND GERRITSEN BEACH PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION TO HOST TOWN HALL TO AID VICTIMS OF HURRICANE IRENE

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) and the Gerritsen Beach Property Owners Association are announcing that they will welcome officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection for a town hall meeting on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cort Club, located at 2648 Gerritsen Avenue.

The meeting will be an opportunity for area homeowners and residents that have incurred damage to their property during Hurricane Irene to discuss the possibility of filing a claim with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The lawmakers made the announcement at apress conference held outside the Bay Ridge Branch of the Brooklyn PublicLibrary.

STATE LEGISLATORS TO PROPOSE TOUGHER PENALTIES AGAINST CHILD PREDATORS

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-C, Brooklyn/Staten Island) will host a press conference tomorrow, Friday, October 7, 2011, at 11:30 a.m., outside the Bay Ridge Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library located at 7223 Ridge Boulevard in Brooklyn.

The lawmakers will announce legislation they have sponsored in both the Senate and the Assembly that will increase the penalties for predators who attempt to lure or entice a child by means of a computer, or into a vehicle or a secluded area, for the purposes of a sexual encounter or to commit a criminal offense.

Local members of the community have been invited to join the legislators at the announcement.

KNICKS LEGEND JOHN STARKS APPEARS AT NEW YORK KNICKS BASKETBALL CLINIC SPONSORED BY SENATOR MARTY GOLDEN AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION COMMUNITY SERVICES NETWORK

Brooklyn – State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) and the Neighborhood Improvement Association Community Services Network, recently sponsored a Basketball Clinic hosted by the New York Knicks, headlined by Knicks Legend John Starks and former player and Knicks Marketing Specialist Troy Bowers. The clinic took place at the NIA Community Services Network after school program at Shallow Junior High School.

The clinic welcomed the participation of approximately 75 kids in the interactive basketball clinic designed to teach basic basketball fundamentals, good sportsmanship, build self esteem, and teach healthy living and proper nutrition. All children and staff received Knicks premium items as participation gifts.

New Law Firm Opens on Bay Ridge’s 3rd Avenue

Brooklyn – Senator Marty Golden and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, along with Robert Howe of the Third Avenue Merchants, and more than one hundred community residents, yesterday officially welcomed the new law firm of Kampessis and Shamoun, PLLC, to 3rd Avenue. The officials, along with family and friends, participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony held at their office located at 8418 Third Avenue in Brooklyn. The practice will serve as a full service law firm.

Hurricane Irene Donations Collected Throughout Brooklyn

Hurricane Irene caused widespread damage throughout upstate communities, especially in the Upper Catskills. With damaged roads and bridges, lack of access to supermarkets, inadequate transportation and high gas prices, many residents are going to face critical food and supply shortages in the upcoming months.

 

With the help of City Harvest, Regional Food Bank, and Move for Hunger, GrowNYC is answering this call for help by collecting needed items at Greenmarkets throughout the City. Donations will be distributed to communities most in need by the New York State Regional Food Bank.

MALLIOTAKIS, GOLDEN ATTEND "TUNNEL TO TOWERS RUN" WITH WOUNDED VETERANS

Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R,C-Brooklyn, Staten Island) recently joined Congressman Michael Grimm, Former Mayor Rudy Guiliani, Senator Marty Golden and George Siller at the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run in Brooklyn. The event was sponsored by the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization created in honor of Stephen Siller, a firefighter who selflessly gave his life on 9/11 in order to rescue others. The group offers support to children who have lost a parent, as well as firefighters and military men and women who have been seriously injured, sacrificing their quality of life in the line of duty.

NYC OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGMENT NOTIFIES NEW YORKERS THAT FEMA AND NEW YORK STATE WILL OPEN DISASTER RECOVERY CENTERS IN BROOKLYN, BRONX, QUEENS, AND STATEN ISLAND MONDAY

Individuals, Businesses, and Non-profits in Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island Affected by Hurricane Irene May Be Eligible for Federal Disaster Aid

 

The New York City Office of Emergency Management today notified New Yorkers that State and federal Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) are set to open Monday, September 26, 2011 in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island. Following Hurricane Irene, the federal government declared the four counties eligible to receive federal disaster aid for individuals, businesses, and non-profits.

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District) in conjunction with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, is announcing that he will be offering free flu shots for senior citizens, uninsured residents, and those who the Health Department is encouraging to get the annual flu vaccine, at two events during the first the month of October.

SHORE HILL HOUSING WAITING LIST OPENED, LOTTERY FOR 300 PEOPLE

Senator Golden is pleased to announce that Shore Hill Housing Apartments are opening up their Studio waiting list to 300 new people. There will be a lottery for the spaces. In order to qualify applicants must be 62 years of age or older and have a maximum income of $34,740. Maximum occupancy for the apartment is one person. The maximum rent will be $909.

 

Interested persons need to send in a stamped, self address envelope no smaller than 9x4” to obtain an application. It needs to be namiled to Shore Hill Housing Associates, LP at 9000 Shore Rd, Brooklyn, NY 11209, Attn: Management Office/Application. Applications must be received by regular mail by October 27, 2011 at 11am.
