SENATOR GOLDEN PARTNERS WITH CONEY ISLAND HOSPITAL TO SPONSOR COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE

Brooklyn - State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is announcing that he has joined with Coney Island Hospital to sponsor a community blood drive on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A mobile van will be outside Senator Golden’s District Office located at 7408-5th Avenue in Brooklyn and an appointment is necessary and can be made by calling Senator Golden’s office at (718) 238-6044. There are 32 appointments available for that day.

SENATOR GOLDEN TO HOST TOWN HALL MEETING FOR RESIDENTS OF BAY RIDGE AND DYKER HEIGHTS

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) is announcing that he will be hosting a Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights town hall meeting, featuring numerous New York City governmental agencies, on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s School Auditorium located at 401-97th Street, corner of 97th Street and 4th Avenue, in Brooklyn.

Deputy Inspector Eric Rodriguez of the 68th Precinct, NYPD, along with representatives of the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Buildings will be in attendance. Representatives of the NYC Department of Transportation, the New York City Department of Sanitation, and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation will also be present to provide updates and answer any questions.

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is announcing plans to host a town hall meeting for the communities of Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe, located at 1518-73rd Street in Brooklyn.

Senator Golden has invited representatives of the Department of Transportation, the Department of Education, the Parks Department, the Department of Buildings, the Department of Finance and the 62nd Precinct of the New York City Police Department to attend and address issues and answer questions from attending residents.

STATEMENT BY SENATOR GOLDEN ON SHOOTING OF BROOKLYN SOUTH SHOMRIM PATROL OFFICE

Brooklyn – State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a former New York City Police Officer and member of the State Senate Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections, has issued a statement in response to the shooting of four Brooklyn South Shomrim patrol officers last night:

“This is another example of how the Democratic controlled legislature has failed to protect law enforcement personnel and all New Yorkers. The only reason that a criminal with nine previous arrests is allowed to walk our streets and cause harm is because of the ineffectiveness of the Senate and Assembly Democrats. Here is an example of what I have been saying, that the weakened policies adopted by the Democratic Legislature puts us all in danger.

District 20 is among the many school districts in New York City to have benefited from the efforts of Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Klein to see that this year, more than 17,000 new seats have been added citywide, as a result of the $13.1 billion capital program approved in 2006.

SENATOR GOLDEN PROMOTES ADELPHI’S NY STATEWIDE BREAST CANCER HOTLINE AND SUPPORT PROGRAM AND ANNOUNCES PLANS TO HOST FREE MAMMOGRAMS

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) today has joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program in their October breast cancer awareness campaign to urge women to get mammograms.

As part of these efforts, Senator Golden will host free mammography screenings in conjunction with the American Italian Cancer Foundation at both of his district offices. The mobile mammography van, staffed completely by women, will be outside of his office at 7408-5th Avenue on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and at his office located at 3604 Quentin Road on Friday, October 1, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. An appointment is necessary and can be made by calling 1-800-453-8378 extension 1.

SENATOR GOLDEN TO LEAD COMMUNITY MEMORIALS TO REMEMBER SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

Brooklyn - State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is announcing his plans to host two community memorials to commemorate the 9th Anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001, on Saturday, September 11, 2010.

The first memorial will take place at 6:00 p.m. in Marine Park, entrance at Fillmore Avenue and Marine Parkway and at 8:00 p.m., Senator Golden will lead a memorial ceremony at the American Veteran’s Memorial Pier, 69th Street and Shore Road. The events will both feature a candlelight vigil and a special patriotic musical performance at the conclusion. (Please note that the mailing for the September 11th Memorial on the American Veterans Pier at 69th Street and Shore Road stated the event is at 6:00 p.m. That is incorrect. The event starts at 8:00 p.m.)

SENATOR GOLDEN SPEAKS UP AGAINST PAROLING COP KILLERS

Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), ranking member of the New York State Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections Committee, recently demanded the New York State Board of Parole keep two cop killers behind bars. Two of the men convicted in the murder of Police Officer Harry Ryman, who was gunned down on August 14, 1980 in Brooklyn, are up for parole this month. As in the past, Golden, a former Police Officer, is fighting efforts to free them.

SENATOR GOLDEN ANNOUNCES FLASHING YELLOW TRAFFIC LIGHT APPROVED FOR GERRITSEN BEACH INTERSECTION

 Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is today announcing that he has received notification from the Department of Transportation that a flashing yellow light has been approved for installation at the intersection of Gerritsen and Channel Avenue.       The corner has long been one of much concern for the entire Gerritsen Beach community as well as the school community of P.S. 277.  Senator Golden has met with DOT officials on site at this location to observe the traffic study, and has repeatedly contacted the Transportation Department and request traffic calming measures be considered for this intersection.

SENATOR GOLDEN & ITALIAN OPERA COMPANY HOST "BROADWAY TO OPERA"

Senator Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) is pleased to announce that the Italian Opera Company’s will present a special production of “Broadway to Opera.” The free event will take place on Monday, August 16th at 6:30 p.m. in Bensonhurst Park at Cropsey Avenue and Bay Parkway.

 “The Company provides the opportunity for a new generation to hone their talents and work experience, while also giving back to the community. I think that this will be a great summer event and a great treat to New Yorkers, who are fans of Broadway classics,” Sen. Golden noted.

The Italian Opera Company works with young artists to encourage their participation in productions alongside professional directors, musicians and vocal coaches. Nina Di Gregorio organized the event.

“The members of the United States House of Representatives, who voted against the Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, have turned their back on those who came to America’s assistance on, and immediately after, our Nation’s darkest day. The failure to approve this legislation sends the wrong message to New Yorkers and also sends an international message that America has ignored the service of their first responders and the health of their citizens.

SENATOR GOLDEN ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC LIGHT APPROVED FOR INSTALLATION ON SHORE ROAD

State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) announces the Department of Transportation’s approval for the installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Shore Road and Ridge Boulevard. The installation should be completed by November 30, 2010.

Senator Golden had received numerous concerns from residents of the Shore Road area and therefore, requested that the Department of Transportation conduct a traffic study, which ultimately resulted in approval for the traffic light installation.

State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) will host the 2nd Annual Mid-Summer Festival in Marine Park at Avenue U. The festival will take place on Saturday, August 7th from 11:00 a.m-8:00 p.m. and Sunday, August 8th from 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

“There is no better place for this event to take place than in the centerpiece of this community in Marine Park. GOLDEN: GOVERNOR PATERSON SIGNS LAW THAT WILL HANDCUFF POLICE OFFICERS AND JEOPARDIZE PUBLIC SAFETY IN NEW YORK

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a former New York City Police Officer, issued the following statement in response to Governor Paterson’s signing into law legislation that will restrict the New York City Police Department’s Stop and Frisk policy:

“The legislation, advocated by Senator Eric Adams and Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries, signed by Governor David Paterson today, only adds to the decay of New York’s public safety policy. We first saw it with the Drug Dealer Protection Act and then with an increase in the release of violent felons. Now, they are asking the Police Department to fight crime with one arm tied behind their back.

SENATORS GOLDEN, PADAVAN AND LANZA CHARGE MTA FAILS NEW YORKERS AGAIN

State Senators Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn). Frank Padavan (Queens) and Andrew Lanza (R-Staten Island), today are responding to a New York State Comptroller’s report highlighting yet another financial failure of the Metropolitan Transit Authority, that of their failure to collect more than $9 million in back rent from nearly 1,000 commercial tenants. The State Senators are charging, in the wake of this week’s severe bus and train service reductions across New York City, that the mismanaged MTA has failed New Yorkers again.
