Senate Republicans will provide the votes necessary to ensure passage of Senate legislation to raise the charter schools cap from 200 to 460 when Democrat Conference Leader John Sampson finally brings the bill to the floor for a vote later today. The measure would improve educational accountability for parents and provide expanded opportunities for students all across the State, Republicans noted.

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District) today is announcing that the finalists have been selected in his 8th Annual “State Senator For A Day” essay contest.
This contest invited local school children of District 20, District 21 and District 22 to write essays no more than 250-words which began with the phrase, “If I were a State Senator for A Day...”. Throughout the essay, the students write about issues facing the community such as public safety, park improvements, educational needs, and traffic concerns.

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden today has joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program in their annual Mother’s Day breast cancer awareness campaign to urge women to get mammograms.
Senator Golden stated, “Mother’s Day is a significant time to remind women to get mammograms. I hope that this Mother’s Day women will take the time to make an appointment for a mammogram. Approximately 95 percent of all mammograms prove to be normal.”
