Senator Golden Letter To The Editor Regarding Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 11, 2007Dear Editor,Sadly, most of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer as well as the second leading cause of death among women in America. Early detection is crucial to successful treatment. That is why, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I would like to provide the community with the resources to obtain a mammogram with little or no out of pocket expense.

Cigarette Trafficking: The New Cash Cow For Al Qaeda

New York tax law requires a sales and excise tax to be imposed on each pack of cigarettes sold by a licensed retailer. Native American reservations throughout the State of New York have argued their sovereignty gives them the authorization to sell tax-free cigarettes to both tribal and non-tribal members. However, in 1994 the United States Supreme Court ruled (Attea v. New York State) that New York was within its constitutional right to tax all cigarette sales to non tribal members. Seems like common sense, right?

Community Emergency Response Team Www.cert1nyc.com

Following the events of September 11th, my district office turned into a relief center to help the emergency workers, the volunteers and the victims families. Over 2,000 people came through my office doors to donate blood, food, clothing, water, medical supplies and tools. From this response of civic activism, and after hearing President Bush's call, community leaders and myself created the Community Emergency Response Team. We want to organized, be trained, and have a plan if we as a City, State or Nation are ever again attacked. I urge you to join. You can visit the C.E.R.T.
