STATEMENT BY SENATOR GOLDEN URGING GOVERNOR CUOMO TO MAINTAIN TITLE XX FUNDING IN NEXT YEAR’S STATE BUDGET

New York – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a former Chairman of the State Senate Aging Committee, issued this statement through a representative, at a press conference today hosted by the Council of Senior Centers and Services calling on Governor Cuomo to preserve Title XX Funding in next year’s State budget so to keep more than 100 senior centers open in New York City:

“Senator Golden joins you in sending a message to Governor Andrew Cuomo asking him to not propose cuts to Title XX funding in next year’s New York State budget. Our message today is that these budget reductions unfairly target New York's senior population and New Yorkers will not accept this.

SENATE PASSES BILL SPONSORED BY SENATOR GOLDEN TO PROTECT HOMEOWNERS WHO MAKE CHANGES TO ACCOMMODATE OLDER RELATIVES OR DISABLED PEOPLE

The New York State Senate today passed a bill (S.638), sponsored by Senator Martin Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), which allows local governments to authorize property tax exemptions for people who make improvements or changes to their homes to accommodate senior relatives or disabled people. The legislation means that homeowners are able to add on to their homes for this purpose without having to pay higher taxes resulting from increased property assessments.

SENATOR GOLDEN ANNOUNCES 10TH ANNUAL SENIOR INFORMATION AND HEALTH FAIR

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a member of the State Senate Committee on Aging, today is announcing his 10th Annual series of senior fairs to be held throughout his district, to offer local seniors an opportunity to learn of the services available to them to assist with their property taxes, prescription drug coverage, personal safety, access to City and State services, and their health.

The senior fairs will feature information and assistance offered by City agencies including the Departments for the Aging, Environmental Protection, Finance, Transportation, Sanitation, the Human Resources Administration, New York and Company, the New York City Police Department, the New York City Fire Department, and the Parks Department.

SENATOR MARTY GOLDEN AND NYC AGING COMMISSIONER BARRIOS-PAOLI ANNOUNCE HOMECREST COMMUNITY SERVICES SELECTED AS NEW NEIGHBORHOOD SENIOR CENTER

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today was joined at a press conference by New York City Department for the Aging Commissioner Lilliam Barrios-Paoli, and officials of Homecrest Community Services, to announce their selection to operate a new neighborhood senior center located at 7907 New Utrecht Avenue in Brooklyn.

The senior center is expected to provide 23,750 congregate meals and comprehensive multi-social senior services including health and wellness care and activities, citizenship assistance, and case management. The center will also provide recreational activities and programs for the program participants.

SENATOR GOLDEN PARTNERS WITH THE VISITING NURSE SERVICE TO OFFER FREE FLU SHOTS

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District) in conjunction with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, is announcing that he will be offering free flu shots by appointment only for senior citizens, uninsured residents, and those who the Health Department is encouraging to get the annual flu vaccine, at three events during the month of October.

Senator Marty Golden stated, “We are less than two weeks away from what is now a very popular Brooklyn tradition, Senior Idol. This year, we again have another list of performers who have great talent and will be sure to entertain the crowd. If you are looking for a night of laughter, tears, and true fun right in our neighborhood, don’t miss the show.”
