Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden recently made a special visit to Shore Hillto celebrate the Mid-Autum Festival. Senator Golden and his staff and volunteers distributed moon cakes to all.Senator Golden's remarks are below."Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! Oct 6will be the mid-Autumn Festival in the Lunar calender. I hope you enjoy the Mooncakes which symbolizes family reunion. Senator Marty Golden Meets With Head Of The Women's Breast Center Maimonides Medical Center's Dr. Patrick Borgen

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) recently met with Dr. Patrick I. Borgen, the Chief of Breast Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he heads the Women’s Breast Center at the newly built Maimonides Cancer Center.

Recruited from Memorial Sloan Kettering, Dr. Borgen was Chief, Breast Service; Head, Breast Cancer Research Laboratory; and Director, Breast Cancer Disease Management Team at Memorial. He is Assistant Professor of Surgery at Cornell University Medical College.

Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) is today announcing that he will be hosting a special education fair for families and students of School District 20, 21 ad 22 on Saturday, October 14, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Marine & Academic Center Rotunda at Kingsborough Community College located at 2001 Oriental Boulevard in Brooklyn.

Dr. Rebecca H. Cort, Deputy Commissioner of the New York State Education Department’s Office of Vocational Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities will be a featured speaker.

City Parks Foundation Launches Free City Parks Seniors Fitness In Brooklyn With Funds And Support From Senator Martin Golden

Brooklyn- City Parks Foundation and Senator Martin Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), Chairman of the Senate Aging Committee, is pleased to announce the start of its Autumn 2006 free CityParks Seniors Fitness program, which will offer tennis lessons, yoga instruction, bike trips, and fitness walking for seniors in Marine Park. Senator Golden secured funding necessary to offer seniors in Brooklyn the opportunity to learn new fitness activities, with free instruction and equipment during the autumn season.

Senate To Act On "timothy's Law" To Provide Mental Health Parity

Albany- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) will join in his colleagues in the New York State Senate today in acting on "Timothy’s Law," sponsored by Senator Tom Libous (R-C, Binghamton), to provide parity in insurance coverage for mental illnesses. The legislation would require insurance companies to cover most mental illnesses and would require coverage for a broad range of mental illnesses and conditions specifically related to children.

Golden And Kelly Honored By Boy Scouts At Bishop’s Dinner For Scouting

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), was recently honored, along with New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly at the Bishop's Dinner for Scouting.

Senator Golden and Police Commissioner Kelly received the Good Scout Award presented by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio. Both Golden and Kelly were lauded for their many contributions made to both the Boy Scouts of America and the Catholic Committee of the Boy Scouts of America.

Senator Golden To Host September 11th Memorial Events In Bay Ridge And Marine Park

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District) is today announcing his plans to host two September 11th Memorials to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center on Monday, September 11, 2006.

Senator Golden will host a memorial in Marine Park, by the Field House at Fillmore Avenue, at 6:00 p.m. The Memorial will feature prayers, a moment of silence, song and inspirational speeches.

Senator Golden will also host a memorial event at 8:00 p.m. on the 69th Street Pier at Bay Ridge Avenue and Shore Road.

For Hire Car Service Safety Improved Under New Law In NYC, Westchester, Nassau

Under a new law (S.8400) sponsored by Senator Marty Golden (R,C-Brooklyn) persons using for-hire car companies in New York City, Westchester and Nassau counties have improved service and greater protections under comprehensive standardized safety regulations. The new law also streamlines regulations for owners. “This new law improves passenger safety while eliminating burdensome regulations for the black car industry,” said Senator Marty Golden.

Golden Bill To Allow For Tax Exemption Selection By Owner Becomes New York State Law

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) said today that Governor Pataki has signed into law his legislation to eliminate certain barriers for senior citizens and the disabled to receive property tax exemptions (S. 7075). The legislation clarifies the intent of the current law that individuals who are elderly or disabled should be able to choose the exemption that is best for them.

Brooklyn Seniors Sail New York's Harbor

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden, (R-C, 22nd District), Chairman of the New York State Senate Aging Committee, earlier this week hosted a Senior Boat Ride for local senior citizens aboard the "River Rose".

Senator Marty Golden has hosted this event for the past four years, an event that provides for an enjoyable afternoon and a memorable time for all. The boat rides features music, dancing, lunch. Seniors Our Lady of Angels, the Fort Hamilton Senior Center, St. Dominic’s Church, St. Finbar’s Church and St. Bernadette’s Church were invited.

Troublesome, Eyesore Bushes Removed By City

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden, joined by New York City officials and Community Board 10 District Manager Josephine Beckmann, this week oversaw the removal of troublesome bushes which have plagued the Dyker Heights community for years, on the corner of 84th Street and 10th Avenue.

At a February meeting of the Dyker Heights Civic Association, Mayor Michael Bloomberg promised to have the Department of Transportation HIQUA Unit investigate and remove the obstruction.
